Dust settles on a scenic town
horror not even realised
historic dwellings crumble
to the ground - blanketing bodies
twisted carelessly down

Seismic activity continues to shake
Cathedrals once prayed in tumble
on those below - ecstatic and bewildered
by the old stoned spires - now fallen
crushing them in its wake

Blood drenched faces cry through streets
as all around them shakes to the ground
boulders like marbles roll down hills
life on that pathway flattened now dead
sirens screaming while alarms they bleat

Vehicles mold under beams of stone
the loved one within severed and dead
only out to get lunch on this sun filled day
no dinner nor supper to be shared evermore
so many will never come home

Worldly Nations fly from all around
to recover, rescue, to give those a break
who have toiled with low hearts filled
with fear - as the earth continues rocking
bringing what stands down to the ground

Cold rain falls all around
once the night sets in
hampering efforts to rescue and save
those trapped in buildings dead or alive
changing what once were smiles to a frown

Hundreds are dead hundreds are missing
survivors becoming far and few
no longer will daddy be coming home
nor mummy or grandma my daughter my son
my new baby no longer will I be kissing

Prayers go out to God above
Angels come forward to gather souls
holding them close allaying their fears
in preparation for their journey Home
Souls laid down to Rest In Love...
