Your trying to run it from the cd?
Or did you do a hard disk install? I just googled it , their seems to be a bug . Try an older release or maybe LimeLinux or another debian distro.

I have it on two hard drives. I am running 10.10 on the main drive and 11.04 Alpha 2 on this drive. If you think the stable version is fun you ought to try this Alpha 2 version. It does have less bugs then the Alpha 1 version had. I think Natty is going to be pretty cool come April when the final version comes out.

How can I switch from Windows Boot Loader to GRUB? Anything to make Ubuntu boot up by default rather than Windows! I'm 99% free of it, but it still haunts me.

Why wait or use something old? Grabbing a distro that isn't buggy on your machine is good advice. Ubuntu is definitely not the only game in town. Distrowatch.com is a good place to start for distro shopping.

I take it you are dual booting. Ubuntu will work along side another operating system or will take the other operating system out and replace it depending on which option you give it. Ubuntu will let you run more than one instance of Ubuntu even. If you want to take Windows out of the equation then when you put the Ubuntu CD in tell it to take the entire partition. Ubuntu will work with Kerebos. The latest version of Ubuntu even offers you that option in its update offer for security purposes. Before I would use FDISK to take out the Windows Boot Loader.
