I quoted you, but I want to repeat what you said so you realize how foolish it sounds.

"I can't imagine that he's giving his daughter a place to stay, but he hates her enough to make her cat run away"

I have no idea why you think that sounds foolish. Maybe you've never smelled a house a cat has sprayed in or maybe you don't realize that a neutered cat will continue to spray areas that it sprayed pre-neuter. I love my daughter dearly, but if her cat started spraying my couch, it's getting thrown outside.

before it gets to that...why not get the cat fixed?

I would, if she were a minor. But his daughter is in her 20's. It sounds like she needs to take responsibility for her pet. Or if her mother is so broken up about it, she should have offered to pay. I got my cat fixed and dewormed for $35, it's not like it's expensive. As a single father, I have a serious problem with the blame only being laid on the father. The girl is 20 years old for heavens sake!

I did offer to pay for it but he threw the cat out before she told him....she is 20 yrs old with mental and emotional problems, she was taking care of the cat and cleaning up after it. My ex has no patience for anything, if he says to do something...it should have been done before the words formed in his head. That is why he told her to do it before Sunday and he did this 15 minutes after he told her on Friday night.

I couldn't be there to help her because she lives in PA and I am in NY. I don't know what shelter they took him too in her area, so I can't call.

I just got a call from my daughter who will be 20 next week, she was all in tears and freaking out. It takes a lot for Sarah to get so upset that she cries, she is one tough cookie.

She raised her cat from a tiny kitten, a stray she found on the side of the walkway by their apartment. Mello's eyes weren't even opened yet, he was so tiny. She did a great job taking car of him and he grew to be a wonderful cat. Her father, my ex, told her that since Mello hasn't been fixed and is starting to 'spray' she has until Sunday to get rid of the cat. Sarah asked if her friend could take the cat until her birthday and she will use the money she gets to pay for his neutering. Her father agreed so Sarah went in her room to call her friend and set it up......

and her father took the cat opened the door to the apartment and threw him out into the snow!!! The cat took off, terrified, and now Sarah can't find him!!

I can't believe that idiot!!!!!mad mad explode rant rant

I am sorry to hear that. We have a stray Brindle pitt bull someone dumped on us but we aren't cruel to it. My daughter is named Sara without an 'h'.

What your ex did to the cat...was not too swift...especially towards Someone with mental and emotional problems

I read it wux...and you are right about her mothering instinct. She is not very ''girlie'' with anything except for the care of her cat and she was devoted to her cat.

I am glad you took it the right way, the way I had meant what I had said, Ei.

Oh boy...probably gonna get slack about this one. But... cats are not like dogs. I grew up on a farm and had many cats and many dogs. Cats can fend for themselves...dogs can't. You take a dog and throw it in the streets and it goes for garbage cans. You take a cat and throw it in the streets and it goes for critters. I don't know the dynamics of the family; but I know that patience IS a virture and parents need to give their children time to make intelligent decisions. Throwing the cat out without letting his daughter decide "how" to best handle the situation to me sounds like a control issue.

Yes I agree cats are resilient-though throwing it out in the cold
still is not right.

Yes a male cat spraying is not very desirable- but I've renovated 2
homes from both cat AND dog damage and odors - it can be done.
No reason to hate a cat because it sprays...

animals are defensless when it comes to a person calculating cruelty-

hopefully he'll end up in a happy and safe situation

The spca had him put to sleep because he went after the worker because he was still traumatized. We are broken hearted over it but are trying to look at it as he is better being put down than to freeze or starve to death.

Me too.

But thank you everyone who stopped by to read this. My daughter is glad to know that there are so many people who care about a little cat, that they would stop by and post.

That sucks... but he wouldn't have starved to death or frozen...they are survivors. Whoever this spca is they suck too for not given this baby some time to "untraumatize" himself and finding a home that will accept him. I'm sorry for your daughter and you for all the sadness that surrounded this sweet life force and event in your lives....comforts.

You know what your shelter BITES. He went after a worker? He's not a dog! He's a cat .. and a kitten at that. I'm biting my tongue. That is the reason I despise shelters and to be honest with you ... I'm willing to bet that was not the real reason as to why he was put down.

Please do your best to keep any animal out of the shelter. I recommend rescue groups over any shelters.

That is such a shame. and to think with a little patience on your ex's side .. this could have all been avoided and Mello would still be here.
