I'm not fond of the term "senior citizen" or even "senior." How do you feel about it? I'm sure that a lot of kids resent being called "junior" and this is how I feel about being tagged and labeled a "senior."

What would you suggest in the alternative?
Slow cured? Well seasoned? Pickled? How about Aged and fully ripened?

I do not mine that term. In many ways it is a rite of passage. I have always given respect to any age group. Like the up bringing from my grandparents, parents. Looked up to the way they lived. Not giving a care what others may think. Do give a care how to treat others. How others treated them. It was actions and not words. Indeed times are very different now.
The so called baby boomer's are of a social standards, that has not been seen since the 1920's. Where people do not wish to grow older but live longer. Living each and ever day to heir fullness. I greet others no matter what age they be. As sir or dear lady. Young people do not like it, but they learn to accept my ways. I hear them at times do greet others the same way. I do not care for the senior menu at restaurants. With either the discounts or the size of the meals.

I didn't really like it when I was labeled and ranked a "senior" or "junior" or "freshman" etc. in high school...I'm not into "rank and file" and labeling.

I would rather be called a senior than an old hag. | |

I guess I am still in denial. Being called a sexy senior citizen does sound better than being called an old pervert to me. There are times when I am unsure of whether I am on my second childhood or just continuing the first one. Most of the residents ask me when I am coming to bed but just the other day one resident asked me if I had a girlfriend. I replied, "No." Then she asked me if I wanted one. I answered, "Do you know of some lady who is looking for a boyfriend?" I know that I am not mature because my old English teacher always told me that you aren't supposed to answer a question with another question. I would have to question her maturity as well from not answering my question but just giggling. Because of course mature ladies don't giggle.

I pay no attention to what I am called as long as it isn't something bad..lol I don't feel old and refuse to sit on the porch and watch the world pass me by!! It's true that I am having to give up some of the things I do now (parasailing and hang gliding) due to getting a new knee but I will find something else as adventureous to do!! And I can still ride my Harley...yea!! Hurry up spring! | |
