Topic: What is wrong with not celebrating Christmas | |
---|---|
I have no family to spend it with and my friends are all married with their own families; so I spend it alone. So why do people get upset when I don't celebrate it? I am not hurting anyone and I don't feel sad or depressed about the day; so what is the big deal?

It's a valid question. I have no family, and I don't know anyone where I'm living now, so I will not be celebrating either. People act like it's some sort of unforgivable blasphemy, though.

not hurting one but yourself if you let it. i've no family here either, so all the orphans meet at the bar and have a party. we all bring something to eat, lots of dishes, booze and good friends. tons of fun with all the regulars you know. our own little family.

That's a great thing if it works for you. Wouldn't work for me, though. I don't drink, I don't go to bars, and I don't want to be around people who do. |

NOT celebrating RamaHuannahKwanzMas?!?!?!?!?!
Say it isnt so!!!!! BLASPHEMER!!!!!!! If it is revered in its proper context...great More often than not, it is a financial burden of giving and recieving crap that none of us really need. |

Yes, you are correct in what you say. We are supposed to be able to freely express ourselves but if we don't conform to what everyone else wants us to do; we are bad people. Quite puzzling actually. |

A few years ago friends of mine lost their jobs but people still expected them to buy gifts. In the new year; people complain about how much debt they have because of Christmas and I won't give them my sympathy. Surely one can celebrate without all the gifts, excessive food, trees, and excessive drinking. |

The way I see it is if that is what you choose then so be it. Just don't down it for those that do
I may not have put up a tree the last couple of years but I still celebrate Christmas. This year the tree is up I may not have the money to spend but then it is not about money it's about a feeling & family. |

Baby, of course you are free to express your individuality in any way you choose...as long as you do it my way. |

I could care less how others celebrate it but they give me a hard time because I don't. I don't have family so I am not upsetting anyone because I don't celebrate Christmas. I think it would depress me to put up a tree and lights, make a Christmas dinner, and just spend it all alone. |

I've found precisely the same mentality when looking for a relationship. There are pre-set expectation parameters, and if you're looking for something outside of those limitations, there's nobody out there. |

If we don't conform to society's way of behaving; then we stay alone. Met many men who hated the fact that I am intelligent, can do my own renos, and can take care of myself. They want dumb, dependent women with figures like models. How does one compete with that? Guess I could pretend to be dumb and dependent but no way in hell will I have a model's figure. |

My kids are grown so they come eat and leave for they have other things to do which leaves me alone most of the day. But I even if I have to eat alone I will still have my x-mas dinner. |

Its too bad that your kids won't spend the day with you but at least you have some time with them. I don't mind missing the Chrismtas dinner actually as I am trying to lose some weight. I lost 5 pounds already. |

You are not the only one in the dilemma you describe. My family is as distant to me as Antares is to Earth.
Heck, if I did have a GF I would be spending all Christmas day knocking boots like there was no tomorrow! What a better way to spend a day off? I am racing to beat a deadline anyways. I have a big job that got huge and we are pushing like hell to be finished by January 6th. So far I have given up every weekend since a month ago. I may actually have to work Christmas day too depending on how far ahead I can push things. All I can say is I am planning on taking a week off very soon and if it does not involve women eager to meet me, fishing, or getting so stoned out of my mind nothing matters I do not want to hear about it! Besides, most of my customers these days are Jewish and I know no one who celebrates Kwanzaa! Well, hope next year turns out to be better than this year. So far it is looking like that! |

They do spend most of it with me but then they have other places to go to now. So I understand it happens as they get older with their own family's.

I don't see why it's a big deal either. I don't have much family myself so I'm kind of in the same boat. New Years however is a different story.
