Topic: Wii vs. Kinect, ne takers? | |

The Wii is...ok but i do agree that the PS3 and the XBOX did ****-jock the idea for motion gaming, disregarding the PS2 failed attempt at Eye-toy. But PS3 wants to stay close w/ their like ball stick but XBOX went alll the way w/ their NO CONTROLLER gaming unit, the Kinect. I personally would like the Kinect over Wii and appearantly may other ppl have too. The Kinect, in it's first 25 days sold (not shipped, but SOLD) 2.5 million units, when in the Wii's debut only manage about a couple hundred thousand. So when it comes down to motion gaming, its the Kinect ftw

It is definately something I would get. Price needs to fall a lot before I even consider it. |

I like the Wii, haven't used the Kinect. I'm glad someone is bringing this kind of technology to market; I'd rather it wasn't microsoft, but I fully intend to owning hardware for motion interpretion one day. I'd like to use sign language to control my computer. Even 'mouse gestures' are pretty cool....image hand gestures.

On the day they released the game store in my town got 12 units. I had one of them because I was friends with the manager and she called me the morning they started taking pre orders and said to come wait outside for them to open. I was also working at a circuit city and we told people if they didn't have it they weren't getting it. I had people offering me $500 for mine |

I'll stick with my PS3 and the controller for now.
From what Ive heard though...the Kinect would be your best investment if you already own an XBox 360. And it depends on what kind of games you like. If you like Mario and more simple games then go with the Wii. If your more into the technologically advanced style then def go with the Kinect. |

I myself don't understand everyone's attraction to motion gaming. As an old-school gamer, the controller is the only peripheral I can imagine. What I cannot imagine is manipulating a game character through movements in my own body. I'd feel kind of ridiculous personally, and it doesn't help much that there isn't a game currently on the market that makes Kinnect the least bit appealing.
I think the technology is exploitable primarily among new gamers who need a hook, a reason to play video games, people whom for whatever reason find interfacing with a controller complex and intimidating... |

No...its just the new face of technology. Not everybody is a hardcore gamer. So they make all types of games and and all types ways to play them because there are all types of gamers. Its just like the progression from VHS, to DVD, to HD-DVD, to Blue Ray.

Its just like the progression from VHS, to DVD, to HD-DVD, to Blue Ray. I agree and disagree...true, not everybody is a hardcore gamer, and motion technology taps into that market. But to say its merely progression is to imply that the controller will one day be as defunct as VHS. Which is highly unlikely to occur even if we, as gamers, suddenly lost our hands in a freaky big collective combine accident. |

kinect is a joke, using a motion controller is one thing but have to use your whole body to do anything in a game is too much.. I also saw a lot of lag when it was demoed on jimmy fallon. I actually got the move for ps3 and like games like time crisis... make you feel like you're at the arcade with the gun accessory.

Downside to the Kinect...a guy at work owns one and said that what they arent telling you is that the radar/sonar images are automatically downloading to an open scource site on the internet so if you are playing naked...you are playing naked on the web and there is no option to close the link.
Dont play it naked. |

Naked sonar image website? I dunno, man. Sounds like the 'they're watching you thru your television' myth.
I suggest we get msmyka a kinect so she can play it naked and we then visit the sonar image website to ogle, um, I mean investigate the validity of your claim ;) |

If you havent played it yet you really cant make a fair judgement on it. I'm a life long Playstation fan but when I played the Kinect, I had to give credit where credit is due. It works out pretty well. |

The one thing that makes me think the guy aint lying is that him (my helper at work) and his fellow dorks live and breathe to reign supreme on every friggen video game they get.....playing all night and forgetting to sleep on work nights ect. I can however, swing a vote for the naked Myka video game fact finding mission. |

Kinect has the better technology, but just wait until this technology hits the PC...PC is going to dominate the market when this technology hits the market for computers only.
