I knew someone who would tell me how fake the internet is and the people on it......yet he was always running to it!! then he would befreind the same people that he called fake...i was baffled..... is not that fake?.......... |

What happened to being honest about who you are and where you live? I'm tired of getting all the women from Ghana, Nigeria and the UK who portray themselves as living here! Recently I seem to be attracting a rash of scammers. Or, maybe I'm just getting a rash from 'em (shrugging shoulders). Anyways, use the Instant Messenger option on this site and you can 'test' them. One sure fire way to check and see if they are legitimate or not is to say, "Oh, wow, you are from (whatever the profile says for the location). Kewl. What time is it there?" A few of the most recent events have entailed them telling me, "I've read your profile and I believe our interests match." Yet, when I spoke with this man in an IM box, he couldn't tell me what his interests were let alone what my profile had said. "I don't come here often but because they had a free weekend..." Excuse me? Unless this is a 'new' Mingle2 ad campaign that I've not heard of, somethings "wrong" with this. And, NONE of the people who are doing this could come up with the correct time for where they said they were located. That should be simple, right? Just look down in the corner of your monitor or cellphone and there it is. Well, I should say it would be 'simple' IF they were actually in the area they said they were in. I hope this helps people in the future. |

Here's another red flag that I've run into a LOT -- you'll get an IM from someone, and the info says they're in the US someplace, but then in the first couple lines of the IM, they say they're in Ghana. So I will ask them about it -- "Your info says you're in Wisconsin, but you're really in Ghana?" -- and they will ALWAYS come back with "Well, I'm from Wisconsin but I'm in Ghana for school." SCAM! Like millions of American students are flooding over to the University of Ghana to get that "special" degree! Right! |
