This is something I have been toying with for a couple of years. I can't decide if I wanna do it or not.

The 80 hour course is about $900.00, the state exan $200.00(if you fail you gotta pay again and take it again) then the psych eval is $400.00, Fingerprint and background about $100.00. Then theres all the equipment you need, most I have, the expensive stuff I dont.

The downside is I don't like guns and wont carry one. I know in Nevada you don't have to you can go the non-lethal route with a Taser, Mace etc.

The pay also isn't bad, you can work for multiple Bondsmen at the same time and they have to pay you a minimum of 10% of the bond and can pay you up to 20%.

I have over 12 years of doing private security, event security, investigations, Loss Prevention, personal protection, force protection etc. While doing Loss Prevention have over 1,100 apprehensions(about half violent).

Any input would be great.

Honestly no one can decide but yourself. If this is something you really want to do then do it... I wish I had finished the Criminal Justice Classes I had started taking over 10 years ago..

Therefore if you don't at least try to do what you want to you will always wonder many years down the road why you did not and regret it in the end..... Shoot for your dreams .............bigsmile

Yea but the costs are pretty high, and it's not really a dream, just something that I think might be interesting to try.

just remember the saying "don't take a knife to a gun fight", eventually you'll find yourself in harms way. is your life worth it?

accept every "variable", of every possible "occurence", within any given "situation", or any situation self propose to "create", looking both for the pro's and con's, not "biased", so not disregarding ANY as TRUE POTENTIALS, and then proceed foward with the natural human MOST WANT that shall be left created within oneself. ]

any that do as this, CAN NEVER CREATE ANYTHING that itself did NOT KNOW ABOUT IT IN ADVANCE, so NEVER A "BAD SURPRISE", which mortal's so despise, but create themself each day.

Well unless your heart is really into it then it is not worth the cost and time...........whoa

Plus if you refuse to carry a gun will the job your seeking with these classes entitle that you wear one? If so then it may not be the area you should seek. But instead look at other areas that do not require one to carry a gun..

You can take anyone down with a Taser, including those with a gun. There a lot of people in this field who dont even carry one of those.

I've already looked in to the class. There isn't a firearms course and the state board doesn't require that you carry. A lot of Agents don't from local bondsmen that I have talked to.

Pell Grant is a grant you can get from the Government in order to take College Classes that does not have to be paid back. You can actually apply online.

Here is the site in order to apply as well you can ask at the place the Classes are offered if this grant will apply there if so they will as well help you file it out. If not they may have other options you may apply for.

Not to burst a bubble here, but the max range I've found for a taser is 100 feet. The range of most hand guns is average 7,000 feet. You're not superhuman, don't get into this field thinking you are or you will end up dead.

Max range on a Taser is 35ft for Law Enforcement and 15 feet for civilian.
