Dude! Seriously......if your morality is gonna prevent you from using the proper tools for the trade...you are making a huge mistake in pursuing that carreer.

This is the equivalent of someone wanting to become a carpenter but refusing to use a hammer. Yes, there are nail guns and pry bars available....but, sooner or later you are gonna need a hammer.

I could be completely wrong on this....I bet I aint.

Still, I wish you luck....and I hope you got a hell of an insurance policy.

I've talked to several local bondsmen over the past couple days and they said only a couple of the Agents they know go armed. Most go the nonlethal route.

Thanks for the concern though.

I agree that non lethal is the ideal. I see it from this angle....more often than not your target will be taken alone and unaware. No resistance.

However, if any family/friends/homies are around, they will run interference. I guarantee it. Trying to peacefully negotiate capitulation will be greatly enhanced by the visible display of firepower. Yes, mace and tazers are effective within their limits. Yet when adreniline is pumping and tempers flare, I would not be intimidated by something my mom has in her purse (especially when my 9mm British Sterling Parabellum machine pistol with 150 round clip is right by my recliner and my Remington 870 riot gun is right beside my front door).

I have no doubt that it would actually be a rarity to need to physically unholster a firearm in the course of a retrieval. But, to assume that the primary tool of all law enforcement would NEVER be needed.........I donno man.....you are either an optimist or bullet proof.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and have flashbacks to a mingle thread.

just remember the saying "don't take a knife to a gun fight", eventually you'll find yourself in harms way. is your life worth it?

You can take anyone down with a Taser, including those with a gun. There a lot of people in this field who dont even carry one of those.

Not to burst a bubble here, but the max range I've found for a taser is 100 feet. The range of most hand guns is average 7,000 feet. You're not superhuman, don't get into this field thinking you are or you will end up dead.

Max range on a Taser is 35ft for Law Enforcement and 15 feet for civilian.

Not the point, but whatever...do whatever you want, I don't care.

Well, in high risk situations like that I would call Law Enforcement before going in, I don't have a "Hero Syndrome". I would never try to take someone when they are in a group.

Also you are allowed to carry Law Enforcement Tasers like the new Taser X12 Shotgun made in part with Mossberg after their 500 model. You can shoot 5 rounds and incapacitate 5 people at once.

http://www.taser.com/products/law/Pages/TASERX12.aspx

Also their Taser X3 hand held can fire three shots and incapacitate three people at the same time. Obviously those are what I would be carrying.

Do it. If you don't, someone else will. If you think there is some risk, find out what they are.

You still get to pick your cases don't you?

Hahahahaha. Fear! Pass it to the right Bogart.

Along a similar tangent, my new neighbor is working as a ranch hand and was floored by the fact that landowners can legally shoot people on their posted property. (Apparently not in Cali where he came from)

It is a law that was implemented back when cattle driven from mexico to abilene to be loaded on rail cars were often pushed through local texans property and any cattle along the way were rustled into the herds. If a /POSTED: NO TRESPASSING/ sign is up on any property...you can legally shoot anyone on that land.

The law is no longer useful but, there is no Texan lawmaker who would ever recind it.....we like the thought of being able to defend our stuff. We don't actually shoot people for trespassing....but, it is nice to know that we can.

Yup, in Nevada you are an independant contractor so you can work for every bail company if you want. You can pick and choose and you can take several at once.

I have been in a lot of "High Risk" situations when I was in Loss Prevention and I am a firm believer that you can talk almost everyone down. If you go in treating them like a human and not some a$$hole with a badge on a power trip playing cop yelling in their face, you stand a better chance.

There are risk's, hence the reason to carry Tasers, Mace, ASP's and Life Act Guardian Angels etc.

Loss Prevention was also a high risk job.

I prefer a Mossberg pump sporting an 18.5" barrel loaded with one slug up front and 3 double-00 buck backers.

A Smith 44 mag sidearm, a 9mm Beretta in the belt in back.

A 380 Beretta in one boot and a 8" ribbed shank in the other.

Tasers are for pusssies. laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

It seems like it's something that you want to do. If it is then I say go for it or you might find yourself wondering later, what it could of been like. I'm just speeking from my own experiences. I took calculated chances and they payed off. If I didn't try something that I really wanted to, then I just wondered about it. Only you know what you want. :-)

Dog's an idiot, I can't even watch that guy. I watched one episode and it made me sick. Them on their radios getting all hyped up and getting excited talking about their badges then they run up on the guy yelling, that's just looking for a fight.

How often do you see cops, Loss Prevention or anyone else taking someone into custody running up and yelling? Only when it's a life or death situation.

#1 rule, keep the person calm and talk to them like a human being. I had the least amount of "Hands on" or "Fights" out of our whole crew when I did LP. I rarely used my cuffs, kept my cool, didn't act like a cop and kept the person cool.

OK, so for less than 2 grand you can get started. I've put more than that on a credit card. Just do it. You can always make more money, you can't make more time to do it later in life.

You will always find people to piss on your dreams and tell you it is a bad idea. Don't listen.

Find out for yourself.

Go here, you can take various firearms courses and they do teach an 'edge' course;

http://www.gunsite.com/main/

Though you may not at this time prefer to work the job w/o equal force of your potential take-downs, it might be at least wise to get a handle on what might be used against you in the 'real world'.

Good luck,

K.
