Obama was caught several times with his hand on his heart at the national anthem, imagine that??!!! This is really old news and has been disputed several times. As to racism, dating outside your race doesn't make one unracist. Being white in a white majority country makes it really hard to understand racism from the perspective of a non white who is living it daily. A country that has been teaching white superiority racism since its inception seems to have a hard time undoing hundreds of years of teaching. Fear of the different is instinctive to the human species. However, w/ a little reason and intelligence, this very primative instinct is easy to overcome. Why America seems to be taking longer to overcome this than most other civilized nations is a shame. I think it has something to do w/ having a war end slavery instead of a general recognition of the absolute evil of enslaving a group of intelligent beings simply because they look different than the majority of intelligent beings. Freeing an oppressed people without changing the dynamic of the oppressors is almost an act of futility. The south here is like stepping back a hundred years when it comes to race relations. They pretend to tolerate each other but the underlying resentment is always there. Their form of non racism means that in public they will interact almost civilly but in their homes or in their groups there is no tolerance for interracial interactions. There have been lines drawn and they are strictly enforced. |

Well being as how I am a white person who grew up around majority black people even having black foster parents and being one of like 5 white people at my high school in Houston TX. I can say yes, I know exactly what it's like surrounded by a different race daily. Thanks for acknowledging that it takes that kind of experience to know what it's like! Because it was no walk in the park.Well hey at least I learned how to fight defending myself just for being a white girl. 
That still doesn't prevent racism. It actually seems to have promoted it here. White folks in this country have been taught racism even from the laws of the land. Getting an understanding of equality regardless to skin color is what is needed. I don't feel that here. Well that's your personal emotions tied to what I have said. I have never even after all the hate I experience felt that any races was lesser than another. Just different. |

It is still not the same as having laws that discriminate against you or having a whole nation that prefers "whiteness" in all scenarios and having to deal with that daily. I lived in gangland here and I have been called names and not liked because of my whiteness. None of it even slightly compares to what being non white is like in America which is majority white, has laws that favor whites, has police that favor whites, has employers that favor whites, etc.... |

I'm amused at the irony of pissed off people because someone is burning a $10-$20 Chinese made American flag however. Especially considering men and women fought for exactly this freedom of speech. |

All humans have a built in instinct to identify with their own kind.
In no way does that automatically make one a racist....lots of times its just what we do even without realizing it. The animal kingdom is the same way. I seen a show on TV once that showed this truth. They had quite a few baby chicks in a box...yellow ones, white ones, brown ones. They had them all mixed together. Then after several hours of being left alone, they came back and checked up on them, and they had all segregated themselves!! White chicks in one corner, yellow in another corner, and browns in another corner.....all WITHOUT human intervention. That kind of thing is apparent in just about EVERY living species. |

which makes it even sadder that INSTITUTIONAL discrimination still exists,,, that when it comes to first time drug offenses black youths are incarcerated almost fifty times as often ( Human Rights Watch, 2000. Punishment and Prejudice: Racial Disparities in the War on Drugs. DC: May, Volume 12, No. 2) that black males without a record are not as likely to get a call back for employment as white males with a record (2003, The Mark of a Criminal Record." American Journal of Sociology. Volume 108: 5, March: 937-75.) that black males are more likely to be stopped and searched for drugs than their white counterparts even though those counterparts are more likely to be found with drugs when searched ( Findings from the 2002 National Survey. U.S. Department of Justice, (Bureau of Justice Statistics), April 2005. the list could go on and on,, institutional racism is a real thing and not just some CARD that people bring up for some imagined benefit,,, |
