Online dating, like most everything else in life, has its ups and downs. For this thread, I would like to focus on the downside, the frustrations experienced in the quest for someone special. As I have found out, the road to a good match is paved with unpleasant experiences and unsavory individuals. My most frustrating experience, and it has happened on more than one occasion, is when a seemingly serious connection develops, with frequent emails, IM's, and phone calls. Then, out of the blue, for no known reason, it stops cold and I never hear from the person again and I'm left wondering what I said or did wrong.frustrated I am currently involved in something I hope and pray blossoms into a lasting and meaningful relationship. However, I know what it feels like to be led to believe things are going in a positive direction, then be left twisting in the wind. All I know is that if I were ever to break off an online connection (and I have), I would let the other person know in a timely fashion and not burn any bridges.
I am interested in hearing of the frustrations encountered by others in the endeavor of online dating.

my most frustrating experiences have been while working on my various cars or trucks.

I'd say all bets are off until you've met in person, and even then, it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind.

The best you can do is be worthwhile in the sense that someone will desire you...

jmo but it works for me...

I have had this happen as well. It is very frustrating when this happens and I do my best to let someone know it's just not working for me. I'm always honest with them why I just don't feel a connection and sometimes they don't like it but I'd rather be honest with them. Perhaps it's a flaw they need to work on and no one has been honest enough to tell them. But when I have this happen to me and they just out of the blue stop communication I just take it as a sign that I'm better off and move on. It could be worse by getting involved and then out of the blue it comes to a halt. Things happen for a reason...

I've had that happen. More or less.
One time,I was emailing back and forth with woman for about a month. Things seemed to be getting serious. Then I got an email from her saying she had been doing this with 7 other men and oh btw, she's picked one of the others to date, but hey let's just be friends.

And she picked a real winner too. They met, they spent a weekend boffing, then he told her to get the F out. She ended up pregnant and he disappeared. Karma can be a real biotch.

And no, we're not still friends. I don't take such things lightly.

One of my biggest frustrations is trying to decipher the putrid piles of drivel, illiteracy and incompetency that people try to pass off as a "profile."

Another frustration is that people have a tendency to tell you what they think you want to hear, or what they think they're supposed to say (often the same thing), rather than anything remotely resembling the truth.

Some people seem unable to comprehend simple statements such as "I am not interested in dating anyone who _________."

The sheer, incomprehensible homogeneity.

Having the first girl I met from a dating site turn out to be an arsonist.

Having the next eight turn out to be even worse.

As always, interesting replies! Keep 'em coming! Grneyeyldy, I agree totally. I am grateful that those never were connections ended there and not somewhere farther down the road. Lex, if the next eight ladies you dated were worse than the arsonist, you are lucky you still walk this Earth! Thank God you still do, as your blogs are very enlightening!

Well, yeah, fire has its uses, but I don't normally think of "burning down motels for no reason" as one of them!

The arsonist was a complete whackjob, but at least she had a pseudo-functional brain. Most of the later ones (with one exception) couldn't find a car door even if they had a map and an instruction manual.

Although I have to admit that the phony kidnap victim would make for an interesting psychological study. Why would someone who isn't a kidnap victim get on the internet, pretend to be one, and beg people to come rescue her, when she can walk out the door any time, or call the police (if she had really been kidnapped), or anything....? People are messed up.

Never count your chicks..... blah blah blah....

Often times, online connections are based off of assumptions and expectations....

If you get to the part where you actually meet in person, it's best to treat it as the very first time talking and meeting that person despite hours spent online/text/phone/etc.

The mental and emotional connections made online.... may or may not translate in real life.

ohwell Online dating is more challenging than dating in person, imo.

The only thing frustrating for me is reading women's profiles in which women claim to share my faith, but they really don't care about faith.

Quiterightlyso, I have had your situation happen to me more times than is worth counting. You think things are going good, then they pull a Houdini(sp?). You'd think people would have the courage to at least let you know they lost interest. Gets so irritating. My last relationship ended because I never heard from the guy again, yet I knew he was online because one of the sites we both go on shows the last login date.
