massagetrade,

AIDS is a syndrome, it's a combination of unrelated diseases. AIDS is
believe to be caused by HIV, but why do people get AIDS who don't have
HIV? Scientists answer: "Umm....we don't know...maybe a new type of
HIV? Yes, that's it, a new type of HIV!" What a crock.

Yes. I used terms incorrectly.

"During the early 80s, surveys showed that some gay men had
intercourse with as many as 20 men in a single night"

I am going to say this right now and outright for everyone to comment
on. I, myself feel that this so called fact is nothing butt buu poop.
I am not saying you did nt read this somewhere spider, however think
about it for a second. Where are you going to find ONE person, male OR
female, let alone twenty that have the stamina and capability of having
sexual intercourse twenty times or more in one night. I am sorry but
that is just too comical to even believe.

Some of what you have said in here is corect, but a lot is just plain
bogus. As the suggestion that aids is predominately an illness suffered
from gays. That is more bull poop.

The real ways in which aids can be infected are few:

a: sexual intercourse, vaginal or anal (anal is a higher risk because of
the thinner lining of the walls). This does not mean predominantly gay
either. Women have anal sex just as much if not more so than a gay
couple. Believe it or not, a major amount of the gay population does
not have penetration as it is too painful.

b: blood transfusion: this is from both infected blood (although it is
very rare in a hospital setting nowadays) and infected needles,w ether
it is from drug use or not (although in this case you are likely to find
an infected needle in the drug sommunity more than a hospital setting.)

c: mixing of bodily fluids. Theoretically yes it is possibel to
contract aids through french kissing if BOTH partners have an open sore
in their mouths, but the actual transfer of fluid is so minimal as to be
non existent. Basically though the infection has to come in contact
with your blood stream, which means you can drink from the same cup of
water and not worry about it.

d: by birth: Yes aids is transferrable by birth. ir ead somewhere
once that they have been able to either ensure or close to it that
someone with aids will not pass it on to a newborn but I do not know if
this has been verified.

As far as breast milk goes, I have never heard of this before. I guess
theoretically it is possible yes but how likely I have no idea.

To recap I want to just say this. AIDS IS NOT A GAY COMMUNITY DISEASE.
It has never been and never will be predominantly a gay community
disease.

Daniel,

Just a quick observation, its not necessary to have a 'full sexual
experience' 20 times in one night in order to have sexual contact with
20 ppl in one night. This may be distasteful to many, but not everyone
approaches sex from a 'start to finish with one person' point of view.

Of course, it hardly matters to the question of AIDs.. no one claimed
it was 'common'.

Daniel,

"To recap I want to just say this. AIDS IS NOT A GAY COMMUNITY DISEASE.
It has never been and never will be predominantly a gay community
disease. "

67% of men with AIDS are gay...but that's just a coincidence, right?

You are correct, that statistic was wrong. I thought it strange when I
posted it, but I didn't have time to look it up. It was not intentional
at all. It's 20+ partners a year.

http://www.leaderu.com/stonewall/issues/tomschmidt.html
------------------------------------------------------------
Bell & Weinberg found that only about 10% of gay men are involved in
"close-coupled" or longer-term relationships (that is, those involving a
single person as the primary-note I did not say exclusive-partner for
two years or more). Another 20% are currently involved in more
loosely-defined or short-lived partnerships, but the majority experience
is a current of constantly changing partners. 83% of gay men report more
than fifty partners lifetime, 28% report more than 1000 partners (The
highest statistic available for the general male population is more than
10 partners lifetime, reported by 33%). In the late 1980's, after five
years of the HIV epidemic, studies showed little if any change: an
average of 20+ partners per year per person, with 77% reporting more
than ten partners in past five years (a rate ten times that of the
general male population).

* One study reports 70% of homosexuals admitting to having sex only one
time with over 50% of their partners (3)
* One study reports that the average homosexual has between 20 and 106
partners per year (6). The average heterosexual has 8 partners in a
lifetime
* Many homosexual sexual encounters occur while drunk, high on drugs, or
in an orgy setting (7)
* Many homosexuals don't pay heed to warnings of their lifestyles:
"Knowledge of health guidelines was quite high, but this knowledge had
no relation to sexual behavior" (16)
* Homosexuals got homosexuality removed from the list of mental
illnesses in the early 70s by storming the annual American Psychiatric
Association (APA) conference on successive years. "Guerrilla theater
tactics and more straight-forward shouting matches characterized their
presence" (2). Since homosexuality has been removed from the APA list of
mental illnesses, so has pedophilia (except when the adult feels
"subjective distress") (27)
* Homosexuals account for 3-4% of all gonorrhea cases, 60% of all
syphilis cases, and 17% of all hospital admissions (other than for STDs)
in the United States (5). They make up only 1-2% of the population
* Homosexuals live unhealthy lifestyles, and have historically accounted
for the bulk of syphilis, gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, the "gay bowel
syndrome" (which attacks the intestinal tract), tuberculosis and
cytomegalovirus (27)
* 73% of psychiatrists say homosexuals are less happy than the average
person, and of those psychiatrists, 70% say that the unhappiness is NOT
due to social stigmatization (13)
* 25-33% of homosexuals and lesbians are alcoholics (11)
* Of homosexuals questioned in one study reports that 43% admit to 500
or more partners in a lifetime, 28% admit to 1000 or more in a lifetime,
and of these people, 79% say that half of those partners are total
strangers, and 70% of those sexual contacts are one night stands (or, as
one homosexual admits in the film "The Castro", one minute stands) (3).
Also, it is a favorite past-time of many homosexuals to go to "cruisy
areas" and have anonymous sex
* 78% of homosexuals are affected by STDs (20)
* Judge John Martaugh, chief magistrate of the New York City Criminal
Court has said, "Homosexuals account for half the murders in large
cities" (10)
* Captain William Riddle of the Los Angeles Police says, "30,000
sexually abused children in Los Angeles were victims of homosexuals"
(10)
* 50% of suicides can be attributed to homosexuals (10)
* Dr. Daniel Capron, a practicing psychiatrist, says, "Homosexuality by
definition is not healthy and wholesome. The homosexual person, at best,
will be unhappier and more unfulfilled than the sexually normal person"
(10). For other psychiatrists who believe that homosexuality is wrong,
please see National Association for Research and Therapy of
Homosexuality
* It takes approximately $300,000 to take care of each AIDS victim, so
thanks to the promiscuous lifestyle of homosexuals, medical insurance
rates have been skyrocketing for all of us(10)
* Homosexuals were responsible for spreading AIDS in the United States,
and then raised up violent groups like Act Up and Ground Zero to
complain about it. Even today, homosexuals account for well over 50% of
the AIDS cases in the United States, which is quite a large number
considering that they account for only 1-2% of the population
* Homosexuals account for a disproportionate number of hepatitis cases:
70-80% in San Francisco, 29% in Denver, 66% in New York City, 56% in
Toronto, 42% in Montreal, and 26% in Melbourne (8)
* 37% of homosexuals engage in sadomasochism, which accounts for many
accidental deaths. In San Francisco, classes were held to teach
homosexuals how to not kill their partners during sadomasochism (8)
* 41% of homosexuals say they have had sex with strangers in public
restrooms, 60% say they have had sex with strangers in bathhouses, and
64% of these encounters have involved the use of illegal drugs (8)
* Depending on the city, 39-59% of homosexuals are infected with
intestinal parasites like worms, flukes and amoebae, which is common in
filthy third world countries (8)
* The median age of death of homosexuals is 42 (only 9% live past age
65). This drops to 39 if the cause of death is AIDS. The median age of
death of a married heterosexual man is 75 (8)
* The median age of death of lesbians is 45 (only 24% live past age 65).
The median age of death of a married heterosexual woman is 79 (8)
* Homosexuals are 100 times more likely to be murdered (usually by
another homosexual) than the average person, 25 times more likely to
commit suicide, and 19 times more likely to die in a traffic accident
(8)
* 21% of lesbians die of murder, suicide or traffic accident, which is
at a rate of 534 times higher than the number of white heterosexual
females aged 25-44 who die of these things(8)
* 50% of the calls to a hotline to report "queer bashing" involved
domestic violence (i.e., homosexuals beating up other homosexuals) (18)
* About 50% of the women on death row are lesbians (12).

spider i respect u very much and your posts are always interesting, but
the generalizaitons about homosexuality in this thread are untrue. there
are just as many unhappy, alcoholic, suicidal criminal straight people
as there are in homo or bi or transgendered or intersex people.

heatherrae,

I'm not generalizing homosexuals, I am talking statistics. I admit that
I got one statistic wrong and I screwed up another, but that doesn't
make my premise wrong, it just means I have a lousey memory.
Statistically, only 10% of homosexuals enter into monogamous
relationships. Another 20% enter into frequent short relationships.
The remainder live a vastly different lifestyle. I was bi, so I know.
All I had to do is say "Who wants to give me a BJ and get nothing in
return" and I had a line of guys...I'm not even good looking. Guys will
screw anything when they are in that kind of mindset of sexual
liberation with no restrictions.

I'm not judging their lifestyle, the only reason I mentioned it was
because people who have more lovers have more diseases and health
problems.

i suppose thats true. i guess i'm in the minority then. i'm not wired up
for casual sex. doesnt do anything for me. but u would have probability
on your side that the more casual sex u have unprotected the more likely
you are to get diseases. but also remember. people can make statistics
say pretty much anything they want them to. it is very easy to
manipulate that kind of info.

Ella1,

I was straight until my divorce, but divorce changes a lot of things. I
was bi for several years, but never happy about it. After I got saved, I
couldn't feel close to God, because of my lusts. I tried to change, but
I couldn't. Finally, I broke down and asked Jesus to heal me of my
desires and he did. There is a lot more to it, but that's the gist.

ok spider, I will grant that you are reading this material in order to
come up with your conclusions, as I think i stated before.

but that being said, with all these "studies" that have been done, where
are the opposite ones to "prove" such high numbers in the gay community?
For example, I forget the numbers you posted but it was in referance to
a gay person being less monogomous than a straight person. Your
articales say it is x percetnage. Where are the studies ahowing how
many straight white men (or blacks, mexicans, chinese etc) are
monogomous, or at least mroe so than they gay population?

And for the few counterstudies that have been done, youhave to keep
inimind the "percentage rate" for the gay community is going to be
naturally higher compared to a straight male community because the gay
community is so much smaller.
in order to get an average you have to add all the numbers together,
then divide that total b the number of adds. i.e the average of
4+5+6+7+8+9=6.5 whereas the average of 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=5. lets say
the first set of numbers was the gay community, and the second set,
straight men. looking at the averages you will see that the first set
(gay community) is higher than the second (straight community). It is
because of this that you can not get a truly accurate counter percentage
relating to the two communities.

I would guess you can find your answer in the following book
"Homosexualities: A Study of Diversity Among Men and Women", that's
where the most respected statistics on homosexuality vs heterosexuality
come from.

daniel48706's photo
Tue 06/26/07 08:02 PM
as I said spider, any statistic comparing homosexual to heterosexual is
incomparable because f the major variance in populations

heatherrae's photo
Tue 06/26/07 08:05 PM
its like what i was talking about earlier how statistics can pretty much
be turned to say whatever u want them too because the only way to get a
truly accurate statistic would be to poll every living person on the
planet. and then they would have to be honest about it to boot. wont
happen.

daniel48706,

Not if it's per capita, which is how these studies are done. People do
this for a living, they aren't going to make rookie mistakes like that.

daniel48706's photo

spidercmb per capita means a certain radius or demographic area
either way, you still have one population vs another. and the numbers
involved are too far aprt from each other to be comparable.

It sounds funny to me that homosexuals are so murderous. It is known
that these particular people are passive and friendly. I have only heard
of one murder by a gay man to another gay man here in Oklahoma.

I know nothing of your sources, but I am affiliated with the aids
movement here. I volunteer and some of my family does also. I read only
the papers from reputable sources. Drs., and so forth.

As far as all that sex you talk of...well...men do tend to lie about
their numbers when it comes to how many sex partners they have had.

Heterosexuals are having so much sex now days it's unreal. Male and
female alike. Teenagers are sexing at an alarming rate.

To say that aids is not real is dangerous. It can sometimes take ten
years to show its'self. One can deter aids if it is caught in time while
it is in HIV stage.

The oldest case of HIV-1 has been authenticated from a blood sample
collected in 1959 from an African man. A genetic analysis of the sample
suggests that HIV-1, currently causing a global epidemic, arose from a
single virus in the late 1940s or early 1950s, according to senior
investigator Dr. David Ho and colleagues at the Aaron Diamond AIDS
Research Center at The Rockefeller University in New York.

Previously the oldest case of HIV infection was thought to occur in 1959
in a Manchester sailor who died of an AIDS-like illness, "however, the
authenticity of this case has not been confirmed,".

A live polio vaccine, known as the CHAT vaccine, was contaminated by SIV
from chimpanzees whose kidneys were used as tissue cultures in the
manufacturing process.

Of course, the idea that 1 million Africans were used as guinea pigs for
an experimental vaccine that was never licensed as effective against
polio is terrifying on its own - especially because the Africans at the
time had no native government to protect their interests.

But this type of experimentation on Third World people was almost
standard practice at the time. It does, however, show that the
vaccinations were conducted in precisely the towns and rural areas of
central Africa where the earliest known cases of HIV/AIDS developed.

According to Hooper, "over 87% of all known samples of HIV-1 from Africa
from 1980 or earlier come from towns where CHAT was fed. And 100% come
from places within 100 miles of CHAT vaccination sites."

Included in that is the earliest blood sample that has tested positive
for HIV, that of a man who died in 1959 in Leopoldville.

They traced every suspected early victim of AIDS on several continents
and interviewed doctors, families and scientists involved in every case.

It is a mesmerizing story that raises an incredible question, one that
the scientific community will have to answer. As Hooper points out, if
his theory is true, it has ramifications beyond solving the AIDS puzzle.
It is a warning to all those now rushing to engage in such experiments
as genetic engineering, that if mankind rushes recklessly forward with
all the good intentions of curing one illness, we could inadvertently be
sowing seeds of far greater calamities.

Another theory...

By now, most scientists agree that the most prevalent form of HIV is a
direct descendant of SIV, a virus carried by African chimpanzees, though
there has not been much agreement about how the virus jumped from chimps
to humans.

The earliest identifiable HIV case was in Africa in the late 1950’s.
[The earliest known case of HIV was from a blood sample collected in
1959 from a man in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. (How he
became infected is not known.) Genetic analysis of this blood sample
suggests that HIV-1 may have stemmed from a single virus in the late
1940s or early 1950s.] The first verifiable case in the U.S. was
identified in 1981. We do know that the virus has existed in the United
States since at least the mid- to late 1970s. From 1979-1981 rare types
of pneumonia, cancer, and other illnesses were being reported by doctors
in Los Angeles and New York among a number of gay male patients. These
were conditions not usually found in people with healthy immune systems.

HIV attacks certain types of white blood cells, primarily T4 cells, also
called CD4 cells (commonly known as T-cells) and macrophages, which are
crucial to the normal functioning of the immune system. The attack on
these cells causes the breakdown in the immune system that is the
hallmark of AIDS.

AIDS is an illness that damages a person's ability to fight off disease,
leaving the body open to attack from unusual types of cancer and from
infections that the body's immune system could ordinarily fight off.
These types of infections are known as "opportunistic" infections
because they take advantage of a weakened immune system to cause
illness. AIDS is not a single disease, but a group of symptoms caused by
opportunistic infections and/or cancers. Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia
and Kaposi's sarcoma (a cancer of blood vessels), once a rare type of
cancer, have been the most common causes of death in people with AIDS in
the US.

The average latency period for developing AIDS once infection with HIV
(a retrovirus—genome is a single strand of RNA) has occurred, is 8-10
years.) However, some people are rapid progressors: that is, once
exposed to the virus, they become very ill very quickly (they develop
acute viremia). Some get sick and stay sick, and can die within 1-2
years. Infants respond to HIV in this manner, as do some adults.

Whether a person is a rapid progressor, or a long-term non-progressor is
probably related to at least two factors: the severity of symptoms may
be related
to the amount of viral load in the blood, and to the severity of the
strain (there are several different varieties of HIV, some more
prevalent in some parts of the world than others).

A person can actually be highly infectious before they have
seroconverted (are producing antibodies against the virus). Their
highjacked immune cells may be making a billion virus particles /day,
which are circulating in the blood and lymphatic system.

For HIV to do its job, it has to take over the DNA of the immune cell it
invades. It then has to take its single strand of genetic information
(RNA) and turn it into double stranded DNA recognized by the host’s
cell. (By definition, this is what retroviruses do). [Usually, in a
normal cell, info on a strand of DNA is converted into RNA, which then
can direct synthesis of proteins and modify cell functions. Retroviruses
work this system in reverse, inserting their message into the DNA, which
THEN converts that message back into new virus particles.]

These body fluids have been proven to spread HIV: blood, semen, vaginal
fluid, breast milk, cerebrospinal fluid, other infected body fluids (but
not sweat, tears, urine, and, usually not saliva). HIV enters the body
through cuts in the skin, open sores, tiny tears in the mucous membranes
of the mouth, rectum, or vagina, and directly into the blood by a needle
(most often through IV drug use, or accidental sticks to health care
workers). You can't get it from insect bites, hugging, dry kissing,
toilette seats, door knobs, shaking hands, sneezing or coughing, sharing
a cup, or other casual contact.

It is possible to be infected with HIV and to transmit the virus without
showing symptoms of illness. Many people don't have any symptoms when
they are first infected with HIV. Some people have a flu-like illness
within a month or two after exposure to the virus:

* Fever
* Headaches
* Lack of energy
* Enlarged lymph nodes easily felt in the neck and groin

These symptoms usually disappear within a week to a month and people
often think they have just had the flu. The following symptoms may
develop after years of being infected with HIV and may signal that the
infection has progressed to AIDS:

* Rapid weight loss
* Deep, dry coughing
* Recurring fever or profuse night sweats
* Profound and unexplained fatigue
* Swollen lymph glands in the armpits, groin, or neck
* Diarrhea that lasts for more than a week
* Bruising more easily than normal
* White spots or unusual blemishes on the tongue, in the mouth, or in
the throat ("thrush")
* Recurring yeast infections in women
* Pneumonia (a rare form called Pneumocystis carinii, which AIDS
patients can have more than once)
* Red, brown, pink, or purplish blotches on or under the skin or inside
the mouth, nose, or eyelids (Kaposi's sarcoma, which is caused by a type
of herpes virus is ordinarily a very, very rare cancer that a healthy
immune system can fight off)
* Numbness or pain in the hands or feet
* Loss of muscle control and reflex, paralysis, or loss of muscular
strength
* Memory loss, depression, and other neurological disorders.

Protease inhibitors, the newer generation of drugs, interfere with the
HIV’s ability to put together new virus particles. HAART therapy, the
“****tail,” combines AZT or DDI + protease inhibitors +3TC. HIV
levels in an infected person fall to undetectable levels as long as the
person remains on the therapy.
Virus levels will begin to rise as soon as the person interrupts their
therapy, or has to be taken off of protease inhibitors (they have
powerful side effects which some people can’t tolerate).

Today, 42 million people are estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS. Of
these, 38.6 million are adults. 19.2 million are women, and 3.2 million
are children under 15. (The most recent estimate I have heard from an
AIDS expert at UW is 50 million people at this point).

An estimated 5 million people acquired the human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV) in 2002, including 2 million women and 800,000 children under 15.

During 2002, AIDS caused the deaths of an estimated 3.1 million people,
including 1.2 million women and 610,000 children under 15.

Women are becoming increasingly affected by HIV. Approximately 50%, or
19.2 million, of the 38.6 million adults living with HIV or AIDS
worldwide are women.

Now...
