In the weeks leading up to his 8-28 rally, Glenn Beck repeatedly invoked Martin Luther King Jr., claiming that his rally would "reclaim the civil rights movement" and "pick up Martin Luther King's dream that has been distorted and lost."
But as we have noted, if anyone has been distorting King's message, it's Beck himself. Beck has portrayed the civil rights marches of the 1960s as a movement solely for equal rights that did not seek to promote social justice or economic rights. But that portrayal doesn't square with the reality of the civil rights movement. For example, the full name of the rally at which King delivered his "I have a dream" speech was the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom," and the leaders of the rally included labor leaders along with civil rights leaders. On Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace confronted Beck with this reality, noting that King's march on Washington was "for Jobs and Freedom" and that the "civil rights movement was always about an economic agenda." And guess what? After weeks of repeatedly invoking King while promoting the 8-28 rally, and all of his talk about "reclaiming the civil rights movement," Beck now says he doesn't agree with a key portion of King's vision for civil rights -- going so far as to suggest that the civil rights movement's economic agenda was "racial politics." read more here http://mediamatters.org/blog/201008290010 on a sidenote, I aknowledge mediamatters is a very opinionated site and this is an opinionated piece,,,,,,I just find the opinion interesting,,lol beck said something after the rally about politicians not watching it or something,, and here he hadnt even RESEARCHED kings march /speech before associating his event with it thats interesting too |

I thought it was dumb and done with the purpose of inflaming the likes of Sharpton and his ilk. Which was a success I might add. I didn't watch it or or read any reviews of it. But if it pissed off mediamatters then it must have been a success.. |

I find it kind of condescending that they would wright about the event before it happened. What did they have to say about the event itself?

"Well, you know what, Chris? I think that is part of it, but that's a part of it that I don't agree with. I think the bigger part - the thing that we fail to recognize is that is the racial politics, that the real agenda should be equal justice, an equal shot. The dream was judge a man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin". |

Glenn Beck is nothing but an idiot cult leader.

Funny, I did'nt hear Beck badmouthing MLK at all in any of his speech.
On the other hand, I heard Al Sharpton repeadedly claim everyone there was a racist and a bigot. Seems as though "Reverand" Sharpton was not there to celebrate the legacy of MLK....instead he was there, as usual, to spew his racial hatred towards others. |

Beck is doing this for publicity and it was in very poor taste. Leaving a bad taste in the mouth of any Americans who understand the civil rights movement and that understands it is still not done yet. I call it ******** and Fox,faux is full of the bull. So much so that it can baffle the mind into doltery. |

It would be good if for once...just once...someone ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE IN HERE WHO POST THESE ARTICLES....could actually post what beck was saying WAS RACIST!!! Seriously give us something to debate here.Because all I see reading this article is Big mouth Beck spews hatred towards blacks and MLK.No facts,no quotes,no videos,no witnesses.Just a whole bunch of BS hoping it will stick to the wall and someone will notice it hanging there. This is getting old.Get some real news or post this nonsense in the opinion section for the NAACP. |

It is all good in theory though, so carry on. ******** is still bull, though. |
