8/18/10 - UPDATE 1: Speaker Pelosi has sent out a statement regarding her comments on investigating those who she believes may be funding the opposition to the mosque: "The freedom of religion is a Constitutional right. Where a place of worship is located is a local decision. “I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that ‘We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center. At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.’ I agree completely. If religious freedom is going to be free, then we have to allow religions to be free to build and worship where they want to. If we are not going to be religiously free, I will contribute to some churches I believe should be removed or moved for my convenience. yeah, its the consistency thing for me all over again. IF the SUSPICION is applied to all equally , I support it. IF it is necessary to investigate those supporting the mosque it is FAIR AND JUST to also investigate those opposing it. like they say about the AZ law,, if you have nothing to hide,, whats the issue? (I just believe in consistency, I dont believe there is any problem with inquiries as long as they are investigated EQUALLY on both sides, much like I feel about immigration, if EVERYONE will be responsible for proving citizenship thats fine with me too) |
