What is one do do during the countdown to the big 5-0?
How do ya deal with turning 50??
I'm blown away....never thought I'd live to be 50.
Isn't there some special gift I'm supposed to get this year?

My method to never getting older is to just ignore birthdays. I've been doing it for 12 years and as far as I can tell it might be working. If somebody tells me that I'm not 25 I tell them to prove it! It doesn't matter what my birth certificate or drivers license says cause you shouldn't believe everything you read! Even if we all do know how *cough* accurate every document that our government makes is......

That's when the Ents finally decide to tell you that you're not an Orc... oh, and keep an eye to the west, as I believe that's the window that the birthday bird of Katroo comes through!

Seriously, though, it's a milestone to be proud of, and you truly don't look anything like that age (I refuse to say the world *ld).

Hummmmmmmm to me it was just another day.......I did not feel any older and fixing to hit the 52 mark in Sept still do not feel any older.

Now last year on my B-Day I was lucky enough to be on a cruise at the same time that my B-Day came around. And believe me I acted as silly as all the 20-30 year olds did.....

Your only as old as you let yourself act...... sure I get up slower in the mornings, I have aches and pains , I don't move with the speed as I once did, I'm not in such a rush doing things, but now I see life in a different perspective.

But as far as feeling any different no I don't I still see the world through the same eyes that have not grown old in my book. Getting old is like a fine wine we have matured but we are still damn good............bigsmile

This was in my e-mail this morning and thought it fit this thread so here your go.................

GETTING OLDER...........

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend.. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.

Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love .. I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.

They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.

Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.

I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore..
I've even earned the right to be wrong.

So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever,
but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day(if I feel like it).

Just a number...

When the day comes will your appearance change?

Will you suddenly act old?

Will you develope sudden age related ailments?

You will still be the vibrant beautiful woman as you are today!!!flowerforyou

My kids threw a surprise birthday party for me at my favorite restaurant and namesake.."ChiChi's... And I was really surprised! But some guy sitting close by kept saying.."she can't be 50" Yes, I thanked him..lol
You are only as old as you feel, keep active and do as much as possible... flowerforyou
