Anti-War Cowards Deface Medal of Honor Memorial

In Indianapolis, another sick act of cowardice and disrespect from the people who “support our troops:” Vandals target Canal Walk. (Hat tip: greenbear.)

Indianapolis, March 29 - Carol Helmus and her family got a big shock during their visit to the Canal Walk Tuesday afternoon, where vandals defaced public property. "We’ve been here a few times and never seen anything like this but it’s a shame, said Helmus.

Investigators believe the suspects hit the canal walls with spray paint late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. They sprayed names, symbols and even profanities against President Bush at the congressional medal of honor memorial. What’s worse is the damage to the two glass memorial panels which will cost thousands of dollars to repair.

The panels contain the names of soldiers, their rank and tour of duty. Police put up caution tape to keep people away from the broken glass.

People who are not willing to fight or support the troops are cowards, and this proves it, they will deface public property but when it's time to receive their punishment they run, just like they will run if there is ever a draft, they will let someone else fight for the freedoms they enjoy

What the protestors did in Indy was clearly wrong, but their cause may be just. Those of us who protested the war in Viet Nam were in the right it later turned out. Protests against our soldiers is unwarranted, but that's not necessarily true of the wars in which they're fighting. I am not, nor was I ever a coward, and I do not fear people who attempt to get their way via claiming to be patriots, nor those who practice strong-arm tactics.

What do you expect? People to deface public property, call Bush an evil dictator, and (gasp) cause $2000 damage AND then to give themselves up?

Even warmongers will run more willingly than to turn themselves over to the enemy whose soldiers they killed.

And since when is war a deed of the heroes? In Afghanistan and in Iraq there are 100 dead enemy bodies to each American who dies in the war. If you ask me, a war that America wages is a war of cowards in bullet-proof vests and indestructible armoured vehicles, against the armies of patriotic foreigners. The War that America likes to fight proves them to be Cowards, because the enemies they pick fight in a turban and a robe, with outdated arms. Americans would NEVER pick a fight with the Russkies or the Chinese, Japs or England, because the Amys would know they'd get stung where the sun don't shine. Heck, America is even scared of North Korea. Amys got their buttocks shaved off in Viet Nam -- Amys learned their lesson, don't mess with "the yellow man" (Bruce Springsteen).

So Amys these days just keep waging wars on helpless peoples, who have no food, no industry, no technology, little drinking water, and hardly any guns, and all they have is a love for THEIR own country. You should at least be able to understand that.

Cowardice? Look in the mirror, my friend. Your entire nation needs to do that, the world would be a much better place if you did.

So don't tell me please that anti-war heroes are cowards. They may be, since they are also Americans, but at least they are fair, reasonable people.

This is not protesting it is willingful destruction of public property.The usual suspects are the 18-25 crowd with no brains,who believe destroying public property somehow accomplishes something.

For those of us who are educated in politics we know you accomplish far more with a pen and paper then a baseball bat and a can of spray paint.They will find this person and he or she will spend many years paying back the thousands of dollars to repair this monument.Justice will be served.

BS. 1) associating the anti-war position with vandals is a guilt by association fallacy

2) assuming that a person who doesn't support the war is a causation fallacy-there are thousands of troops who are against the war, and it is not necessary to be a soldier to be against war (just as one doesn't have to be a republican to oppose "terror")

3) you also assume that standing armies=just war, but history past and present proves otherwise ("jus ad bellum" has not been observed for decades)

I agree with you, Thomas. Also, you forgot to mention, that you can do even more damage with bullets and grenades than with a can of spray paint and with writing letters.

Do you figure America will spend many years paying back the value of lost lives of people (theirs and foreigners') and repair the suffering Amys caused? Will America pay due homage in humility and true remorse to peoples whose lives they unilaterally destroyed, even if they did not kill them, but just killing their brothers and mothers? Do you think America is willing to, or will ever be forced to spend the money and and the respect to re-establish a few entire countries' infrastructure and humane living conditions?

That's very funny!America will pick a fight with anyone who threatens them no matter who they are.Russia's military is broke and 30 years outdated.I doubt if half of it's equipment is operational.If you would do a little history you will find that America has been to War with nearly every country you can think of at one time or another.

I suppose if you are going to fly airplanes into buildings and wage War with America then the blood on the hands of those killed is from your own actions.I know if I was living in Iraq and had a neutral view on the War I would have to think back why America was there in the first place and why they continue to be there.The body count keeps going up every day because those responsible for this War refuse to stop terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan.If the terrorist simply give up and surrender the loss of life will stop.

The damage to innocent civilians,buildings,and loss of life by the United states military is pale in comparison to the daily terrorist actions around the world.Every day we read about how 50-100 people were blown up by terrorist bombs.And just because a civilian died does that mean they were innocent?I'm sure 99% of those innocent civilians would gladly have picked up a AK 47 and shot a American in the back if they could get away with it.

My views on this War is that it is totally justified.I believe we didn't need any reason to go in there to wipe out thousands of terrorist who spread death and destruction around the world and keep women in slaverly.If I was the President I would have carpet bombed Iraq,Iran,Pakistan,and Afghanistan from border to border like they did in World war 2.

Well, if those Americans would actually fight instead of using drones and bombs, they would never win-Afghanistan is known as the "graveyard of Empires" for good reason. I assure you that there will be no military or political victory to be had there or in Iraq.

Seriously? The majority of the drones are survalience only. The ones that are armed are being used in Pakistan and Iraq, but barely in Afganistan because of the Rules of Engagement.

You seem to forget that we were reacting to Japan's aggressions in Manchuria and their conquest of China. Japan was stepping all over our financial interests in the west Pacific and China. We refused to appease them but the League of Nations was hot to Appease Hitler. No matter what we were all headed to war!
