Maybe people do that because they are insecure.. about other people, about their own judgment-especially if they've been burned that way before.. the guard goes up, they don't want to get hurt again but also don't want to stay alone so they go out again before they're ready and add to the cycle..
And then there's human nature-people want something till they get it, and then they don't want it anymore.. I'll stop now, cause I can go on all night..lol |

 It's the whole push/pull thing.. You haven't done that to anyone? Approach them like you want more and when they let their guard down, lose interest and start to doubt yourself wondering "hmmm, why is she so desperate?"

To the OP: I don't know why people do that. It seems like a lack of respect to me. Sorry that is happening to you. I can imagine. It can be scary enough to make yourself vulnerable. When the other doesn't honour you with honesty it is no foundation upon which to build anything meaningful. Sometimes all we can say is 'thank you for showing me who you are' and move on.
