"Like music"....adding layers.....eeh LouLou?.....or color (all born from the primaries)

'Standing on the shoulders of giants'? . What is new, the original...the future is built on the past's foundation which is sometimes laid by others. Not such a bad thing...learn from the past and go forward. Other's thoughts may inspire new thoughts in someone...does that mean those new thoughts are plagiarized? Should the same be said of thoughts inspired by nature...or color...or physics? "Plagiarising from the "natural world"... LOVE IT LouLou! |

Do you think "original thought" exists (much) these days? How do you see hope for this in the future? To mangle something Frank Zappa once said (thereby proving the underlying point), original thought isn't dead, it just smells funny.... As for the future, I think Dan Quisenberry said it best, "I have seen the future, and it is much like the present, only longer." |

"Compound" quotes and subreferences eeh Lex?
I guess the Stones, Zeppelin, etc. did it with the blues and made it their own......(to steal a musical metaphor) ....and the songs certainly longer |

If one believes the blank slate theory of the brain absorbing information (which I do), than any thought we have had has to come from somewhere else (either directly or indirectly)

I am the same, I dont believe anything is HARDWIRED, I am of the 'everything is a choice' mindset... |

....but as far as "original ideas"...is "choice" limited to things that have already been done?........(crude example) Will we ever see a dramatic plot line (disregarding advancements in technology and science) that hasn't been covered by Shakespeare?

I just made a statement (let's say) "somewhere else". It seems that I am insecure (not with observations themselves), but with whether I can pawn them off as "my own"". My epilogue to everything lately seems to be (plagiarized somewhere..I'm sure). I know we are a conglomerate of everything before us. The prefix of "con" just bothers me. I don't really have a point...was just looking for reaction (like everyone I guess). I suppose.....to make it "fine point discussable"......Do you think "original thought" exists (much) these days? How do you see hope for this in the future? "I was born an original sinner...I was born of original sin...and if I had a dollar bill for all the things I've done, there'd be a mountain of money piled up to the sun" - Eurythmics... Frankly, who gives a sh*te???...you are witty, wordy, intelligent and downright f * ckin' hilarious....and if some pissant greeble wants to whinge about originality, they can kiss my lily white... It's inconceivable to even consider anything is original...with 6.6 bil.lion thought streams flowing through universal energy...how is it possible to have a separate thought...we are not separate. |

"Compound" quotes and subreferences eeh Lex? Gets to be a "hobby" after awhile -- Zappa's "conceptual continuity" as a sort of esoteric exercise in externo-futility....buried treasure which, in the normal course of things, is never found -- Ah, but when it is! -- that's magic.... |
