I am in debt too, might die in debt,,, not so much afraid of that,,,its blips on a computer once I am gone,,,,,so long as there is shelter and food and the necessities,,,,,debt may stress me on times,, but it doesnt scare me

Great concept..

Your reply is a perfect illustration of why this country is on the fast track to economic destruction.

Who cares about debt, when I die someone else is going to have to deal with it.

With all due respect, that is a totally astounding declaration, but not at all surprising for some reason..

I didnt say I dont care about debt, I said debt does not SCARE me. The only thing more prominent in these threads then people mistaking opinion for fact is the way people seem to do such a horrendous job of paraphrasing what others have said,,,

I just recently decided to buy life insurance, and enough to cremate me and pay my current debts. I saw my sisters and nephew and niece struggle to pay for cremation of my brother a few weeks ago. I don't want that to happen to anyone I leave behind. He left behind a mountain of debt and medical and hospital bills that will be paid by tax payers and his personal debts were unpaid too. Some people are responsible and others are a drain on society. I don't want to be a drain. I'm certainly not rich, but if I die I want all my business in order.

with the exception of student loans, I dont think any of my debt will become anyone elses responsibility. Those things I may own and havent paid for,, well they get those back. I know, we buried my father a few years back and learned quite a bit about how debt is handled. Those services I may have had, usually required a security deposit which can be applied and ridiculous interest rates which also probably will have already covered my REAL costs....

Debt and surplus are natural phases of our BUDGET, I dont let it scare me anymore than I allow hurricanes or tornadoes too,, this too will pass

we are 13 trillion dollars in debt. 90% of GDP...

we have over 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities..

If you are going to fear something, fear that..

uhmm, debt to GDP is interesting, but not significant.

debt (liabilities) needs to be compared to assetts

debt 14 trillion, assetts 73 trillion. Debt to GDP is a cast flow issue, assetts to liabilities is a more realistic comparison.

P.S. interest is 1.4 trillion, so the US can pay more than it's "finance charges"...

The US Government is in way better of a cash position, cash flow, balance sheet than most american housholds...

Frankly, you should be more concerned that only 1/3 of the us population pays taxes...!!

*sigh*

I was reading something like this but not being a financial wiz, I wasn't sure it was anything significant.

I also read of the financial stores each state has that is ordered by the government for them to keep.
