Should Alabama leave the "Drivers License" test and manual in the 12 different languages that it presently has?

Or should it be written only in English, because that is our language?

I feel like in order to get an Alabama Drivers License, you should learn the English language (if you don't already know it).

This would be a safety issue!

i.e. Your not able to read safety signs, warning signs, alert signs, direction signs, or emergency signs!

I don't see where it would be feasible to post all the above signs in 12 different languages at the same location.

Imagine, approaching an intersection with 12 "STOP" signs on the poll!! It just don't make sense.

If we're in another country, and require a license to drive, you think they would change or add English signs all over their country for us? I don't think so...we would have to learn their language...at least enough to obtain what we need. So, with that said...why shouldn't they, (foreigners) be required to do the same thing?

JMO and Just asking!

What is your opinion?

I believe we as a nation should make english as our official language and proceed to make all documents in english. I have nothing against immigrants (I actually love the legal ones) and feel if I can take the time to learn more than one language even though I do not need to then they should make the effort and learn english too. I have taught ESL and there are many who are willing to learn and I do not pitty those who do not try.

yes, basically I feel its common sense to educate oneself in the culture and language of the place you are going to live,,,

how to MANDATE such a common sense practice is another issue...

I absolutely believe ALL government documents be printed only in English, if business or philanthropists want to pay to print other languages in addition to English that's fine. ALL government documents need to be English only.

In addition to government documents, ALL interstates should be in miles not kilometers. I-19 from Tucson to Nogales is in kilometers and I think that is wrong.

That's so Mexican truckers don't have a wreck from translating miles to KMs on their fingers.slaphead

You're right, it is wrong. Tell Perry!

There was another thread about this already. While people predominantly speak English here, it is not the official language. I think some forget that. And as someone else said in the other thread, that even when people are learning English, they may not be as fluent as they'd need to be to understand everything on the test. So having the test translated in other languages is not a bad idea.

And as someone from the other thread stated, it would be a good idea to learn the language of the country you want to move to ahead of time.

They could be given a couple options.
Pay an extra fee for a translated copy or hire a translator.

if you are going to live here, work here, drive here, do business here, learn the language, official or not, it's common sense that it's predominate since our country's beginning. i wouldn't expect anything less of myself if i was going to do the same in another language speaking country.

the US has such an identity crisis, it's really rather pitiful.

I think the whole world should just pick a language and everybody learns THAT.

Until then, I think it only reasonable to require that people be fluent in the dominant language of the country they are living in.

I don't want to tell Alabama how to waste there money but this driver lic . thing probaly waste at least $500000 of it . But hey they are a bunch of yahoos aren't they ?
You don't have to mandate it . its already the law . when you are tested to become a citizen you are supposed to be able to speak it then . But the buracrates no longer ask that anymore . We have a government strait from a toilet . WE DO NOT NEED A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ANY LONGER WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH A RETARD .....Janet Napalatano is a human rat ..

English is taught to the children of this nation all through school, not spanish, not french, not any asian, arabic, or latin, but English. If English is not the language of the US, then why is taught all through school k-12 and other languages only taught in 8-12 and as second languages?

I have often thought how could it would be if SIGN LANGUAGE were required in all countries,, that could be universal and understood everywhere regardless of accent or words,, if it was all about the hand gesture,,,

I think its kind of like when you go to the cinema and they have one movie playing on two screens,,,,,I guess its a popular topic,,(like the immigration issue right now). This happens fairly often on these threads because, thankfully, anyone can start a new thread at anytime.
