There was another thread about this already. While people predominantly speak English here, it is not the official language. I think some forget that. And as someone else said in the other thread, that even when people are learning English, they may not be as fluent as they'd need to be to understand everything on the test. So having the test translated in other languages is not a bad idea.

And as someone from the other thread stated, it would be a good idea to learn the language of the country you want to move to ahead of time.

So, if you were to move to another country, you're telling me you'd absolutely be able to learn the language well enough to speak it fluently with no problems? That's a nice thought, but it doesn't always happen that way. The best way to learn a language is immersion in a place where that language is spoken. I took a number of years of Spanish in the past and would have an issue going somewhere that Spanish is predominantly spoken and understand everything. If I was there for a while, it would obviously become easier.

Considering that we should be encouraging people to keep and continue their language of origin so this country gets diverse and world friendly.

The official language of this country should be native American if it is anything.

And which variation of Native American language do you propose? It is not like there is only one "Native American" language.

While it is fine for people to continue their language of origin, I believe that all people need to learn and communicate in the most widely used language of the country they are choosing to live...

Native American is the language of this country so pick one, any one qualifies.

As for the common language, it doesn't hurt to have many languages spoke in a country. We should have been encouraging it all along.

I think the whole world should just pick a language and everybody learns THAT.

Until then, I think it only reasonable to require that people be fluent in the dominant language of the country they are living in.

I think it's pretty much already decided. I would say 70% of the Internet is in English and most people speak a few words here and there.. but you cannot enforce to everyone to learn English if they don't want to. I also agree that in USA, everyone should learn English to a basic degree where he/she is able to get around.
I really don't want to see road signs in 20 different languages, and I'm tired of pushing buttons on the phone for English. I don't wanna learn Spanish for now, I might one day but right now I'm kinda still learning English, it's my 3rd language, although I forgot most of Russian I have learned in middle school.

So you are saying to "pick one"... Well the idea was which one? Besides if you want to get so technical... I do not believe that there is any Native American Language that is used all across the board to even a mere minimum of what English has been utilized in this country. And as to the many languages... it does become quite costly for any business or agency, let alone the governments to have to provide "many different" translations of documents or signs. People are complaining about the high cost of taxes to run the government... do you not think that maybe these kinds of ideas come from some one trying to curb their budgets?

K. I. S. S.

I agree w/ so many that have said what you sum up so succinctly ... drinker

Why thank you.

I have often thought how could it would be if SIGN LANGUAGE were required in all countries,, that could be universal and understood everywhere regardless of accent or words,, if it was all about the hand gesture,,,

Which version of sign language? There's the american form, and a Bristish form, I believe, and there's just enough difference for them to be given separate names.

Have to agree here. Each Native American group has it's own language. I think the Cherokee language sounds lovely, but I know I also like the Nez Perce. The Navaho language is pretty well known, even to the point of the Windtalkers in the military. But that might be upsetting to the Lakota tribes to have to learn another language.

Or we can resurrect a dead language like the Narragansett tribe (they produced some excellent pacing horses, BTW) and that might be neutral enough.

So....?!

How about Latin? It's a dead language, nobody can claim it's theirs, and scientists use it.
