It's easy to use the past as an excuse and I will admit to having done so. Somethings do take a little time to get over but holding on to them for too long doesn't help in the cause for moving on.

it no longer has a hold on you. Do you dwell on a past event? Well, I am a memento keeper. All my memories are in a box. You know, like my kids baby photos, prom pictures and even marriage stuff. But Just like prom photos, I pull them out look over them and remember about that event. Some rememberances bring joy, laughter, (goodness, why did I wear that hair style?) and yes, pain. The bad stuff, well I look at it and say, now I remember why I won't date alcoholics, liars and so on. Then back in the box it goes, lesson refreshed. You cant dwell on anything. It will consume your life. |

it no longer has a hold on you. Do you dwell on a past event? Yes, I have. And, my life just could not move forward until I let it go. It was hard. It took time, but the payoff when I finally did let it go far exceeded my expectations. |

I think the past is usually your first point of reference for present day events and future potentials... That is where your experience comes into it. If you had some/a lot of bad experiences in succession, your reference points are going to give you a more cautious approach to the present and possibly the future. There are others who pretend they dont ever let the past get on top of them because life is good at the moment... but then irony kicks some serious arse when life is no longer good.
What I say is; Take everything with a pinch of salt, dont take things or yourself too seriously. The one last bit of freedom we have other than breathe polluted air, is that we are all still free to make a concious decision and decide what we let bother us. There are only three fixed things in life; God, You and the Universe... the rest is what it is and will probably change with time |

it took me a few years but I'm FREE now .. yea, was in Limbo for a while there also. The blessings of getting older is that you realize you're on the other side of the mountain now and it's useless to hang onto things, as they slip through our fingers like fine soft sand. |

I do from time to time but then I just kick the canoe back into the creek because I don't want to take that boat ride.
