I agree with KO on the fact that women had to do a lot of things to get there rights and that they should have the same rights as men. This is my one complaint about this speech what is it you are fighting for now cause if you just want to talk about the past please listen to this those women did go threw a lot, but did not go threw the same hardship that blacks our Jewish people went threw. They did not get taken from there home lands and forced to work someone’s land cause they were a different race. They were also not thrown into Nazi prison camps and put to death because they were a different race and religion. They fought for what they believed in and were granted what they wanted, and I respect that. You are also right that there will never be peace because people are selfish by nature we want and want, and when we get what we want we want more our move on to something else. That is great that you are a fighting for what you believe. I respect that from all of you. Can you really say that what these women went threw was as bad or worse then what Jews and Blacks went through. I am not opposed to listening to what you have to say because I think you are right we should learn more about a lot of aspects of history but we don’t and there are a lot of blanks in what we do learn. I agree with you I really do. I think it is great that you stand up for what you believe in everyone should. I like the post and can’t wait to read the next one. You really are a good writer and what you are doing is great. I am not trying to be mean our anything was just curious of what you think. I do not no exactly what those women went through but I do believe in equal rights I really do.

You need to reread your history of war, sir. Women have always dealt with the effects of it. Beaten, raped, force to bear children of the conquering race with the intent of breeding out their personal cultural histories and breeding in the conquering nation.

The Croat/Serbian one has been the most recent and there is tons of information on the militaries raping the women and forcing them to carry Christian or Muslim children to take the other out of existance.

They went through the exact same thing as Jews and blacks did, because they were Jews and blacks. It was not a only males thing.

I think our education on 'American History' closes us off to things that have happened in GLOBAL HISTORY. I agree, that in america,,there was no longer lasting, worse or more intense discrimination than that against blacks, but in the history of the WORLD , all groups have been oppressed at some point and some place in history.

No problem!

One of the UN groups brought in a several units of women soldiers in the hopes that it would allow these women to feel comfortable going to someone and telling them what happened, so the atrocities and perpetrators could be punished.

My most logical conclusion is strength( or in this case weakness) in numbers. There are merely five million natives in the USA. Less than two percent of the total population. It doesnt give then a very BIG voice politically speaking. I do believe in areas with high populations of natives,,that they celebrate native culture on the day that others celebrate columbus day.

I honestly haven't paid attention to that specifically, or any of the others, but I could have thought there was a whole month dedicated to Native Americans? I may be wrong.

But I still lump them in with the whining poor me group. They happily screwed each other over by letting the US Cavalry use them as trackers, among other things, and the majority are happy to drink themselves stupid and whine about it. I'm all for them going to school/college and suing the government as that's actually doing something.

So funny, it's not announced or on any calendar I've ever seen... I'm almost 3/4 native american and I've yet to hear of this month... Makes me wonder how I missed out...

But Equus I do think you're too harsh on those that didn't sell out.. B/c some did does not mean all did or most did.. A lot did yes, but even those that did were killed along with their tribes even when they helped... I can't imagine being in their positions and being so scared or perhaps thinking the "white man" might know a better way, only to be slaughtered...

I thought I'd heard rumors but nothing definite. It looks like it was basically official last year 2009.

Perhaps. And I'm well aware that it's common across all groups. If the Scots hadn't allowed themselves to be picked apart and pitted against each other, they might have remained unto themselves right from the start. If the whole of Britain hadn't let the Romans in, they'd still be on their own, maybe. So it's not just the Native Americans. Blacks can't complain it's the fault of the white man, when they were sold into slavery by their own people.

But for me, that works for all things. Christians can't profess to be good Christians and allow for the Klan types, the skinheads, etc. when it brings down their public opinions to non-Christians. Muslims can't profess to be followers of peace but allow the jihadists to do what they do. Change starts from within and that means cleaning up after their own.

I am sorry to say this but are you serious? Women have been oppressed worse and more than anyone else. Blacks and Jews haven't been the only ones going through things. If you could list better examples I might give you some credit. However, this is a patriarchal world. Women must conform to their "norm role" in society or they're seen as deviant. If a woman doesn't want to settle down and have kids, there must be something wrong with her according to society. I'm still learning about all the phases of feminism waves, but these women have gone through a lot. A woman is raised to want to get married and have a family, and to take care hand and foot when it comes to her man. He is the bread winner so he makes the decision. Believe me men deal with it too, I'm not saying women should be treated better because of what we have dealt with. This is the longest form of oppression in history. Until this is an equal partnership in EVERY relationship (which unfortunately I don't see us even taking a step towards it anytime soon) women will NOT have their OWN value for who they are, but instead will be valued by their "family" contributions.

Oh I'm working on my next piece :) thanks
