Topic: I accept the label FEMINIST

my only gripe about this thread is it seems being a Feminist seems to be perfectly fine with the majority of people in todays world but if you're just the opposite and talk about hating women, everyone wants to put you on the gallows.

now i don't support either side BUT if one is going to be fine, why can't the other side be alright to?

huh

in my world.... a woman who believes herself to be equal...... socially, emotionally, politically, medically, financially and spiritually.....with men.... and won't accept anything less.....is a feminist.

Where are men negated in that philosophical belief?

sorry Jess but i've never seen a feminist that thought she was equal to men.all the ones i've seen and talked to were a bunch of man haters flowerforyou

Jt....well now you know one who isn't a man hater.

so not ALL women who identify as feminist are out to dimish individual men....but rather to reduce the societal beliefs of gender bias, patriarchal beliefs and constructs...

most feminists want equality...a level playing field for all.

this is why using labels is so toxic....

Actually I think people should appreciate labels a little more. They are far better than the cold, hard, repulsive descriptions that people place on you in real life when they don't like you.

And I was just saying that a woman shouldn't have to FEEL SHE has to APPEAR MANLY in appearance to justify her acceptance that she's a feminist??

OK,,maybe I am not writing what I am trying to say?

IF a dude came on here with no shirt on and wearing a bra, SAYING he was ALL ABOUT MANHOOD,,and believes in the bold strong actions and characteristic's of being MALE and all that being and living a man is all about. WOULD NOT his appearance
make YOU "THINK HIM DIFFERENT?"than THAT he posted ABOUT??
PLEASE tell me MANY would not find both of those an ODD MIX?

I am just TRYING to be real here with what I am trying to follow?
You have the right to say I am stupid,,OK,,but that STILL won't help me find my questions revoking or be-littling,,,or off track of what they are...?

Well, thats great...a feminist but as I've told many a friend who has labeled themselves (mostly Christians, Catholics)You can talk the talk but can you walk the walk??? Anyone can write words. I can easily convince you I'm Christian...but I'm notpitchfork pitchfork pitchfork

Because so many people have so many different definitions of what they see as feminist, I would have to ask what their definition is first and then decide if I fit it.

I believe I am feminist to some extent.

I do not allow the old allowed double standards but I do still want to be feminine and be treated like a lady. Does that mean I am a helpless human? No. But being treated as a lady doesn't mean I have to pretend that I am helpless.

Identifying oneself as a woman and still equal doesn't mean we have to act like men, dress like men, talk like men, etc.... It does mean that we can do what men do though.

I believe people confuse being a butch lesbian with feminist and that is not an accurate assessment at all.

I wonder. We have a very interesting language. Many particular words can have so many meanings, and yet people fight over a word, not always knowing if both parties engaged truly grasp it's meanings.

What if more people lived their lives without care of another's description of them? Would labels even matter then? Or perhaps more people actually DO live without care for labels and only use them without putting much thought into what they are saying.

If that is truly the case, the offended by labels is a smaller group. Then they must ask themselves: Am I a person who feels slighted because I am misunderstood? or am I a person who has chosen to be something and claimed it as their identity because they are not happy standing on their own?

Very interesting

And a man who believes this is also a feminist. There were many men who helped fight for women's equality. My dad and my brother both are, and aren't afraid to say it.

There are men who hate women, there are women who hate men. Both are wrong. Live and let live and don't poison oneself or any other over it.

A feminist won't put up with one who claims to be and yet degrades men. It negates the whole point of the struggle for equality.

I've called out and dressed down plenty of women who sniped at a man for opening a door for them. A simple "thank you" is all that's required. It doesn't mean anything beyond that.

Ya know, in general, I really don't care what clothes one wears as long as they look tasteful in it. Fat person in spandex is just nasty looking, male or female.

I am a jeans and very loose t-shirt sort most of the time. If that makes me mannish, then that's the other person's problem, not mine.

Hormones are what make the person and body structure more masculine or feminine. So blaming the individual for their genetics is kind of silly.

TRUST me as I have read here for three years and know what Most would react to,,and my above question, though it being only a scenario,,,MOST WOULD BE ALL OVER HIM and that post,,in jokes and put downs,,,But I asked only a real question as to her post and her,,and EVERYONE attacks ME with their put-downs and the only logic I SEE to cause THIS,,is MOST are in their ANTI-ATTACK modes (THINKING I am trying to be a smarts or to put her down,,,
and ALL IT WAS and my questions was was for simply a REAL answer,,as you just gave me yours, here but as for most,,it would be at best fifty fifty to their responses...
THIS has all been an eye opening experience to me,,to feel THOUGHTS of accusing,,,just on the bases of others being also female and symbolic as to the nature of her sexual preferences and looks..
SO MANY OTHERS ATTACK this ISSUES IN LIFE,, that I was assumed ATTACKING with no ATTACKS MADE.....WOW. THANKS for the enlighting..really...flowerforyou

I would find it odd. I understand what you are saying. I think it is possibly a difference in perception though. My perception, like yours I think, is that people wear certain 'uniforms' (so to speak) which give some impression of who they are. A policeman wears a police uniform, a fireman wears a fire uniform, women do something with their hair that is stylish , men wear jeans and caps and short hair,,,etc,,,

A girl may be very virtuous but if she shows up somewhere with a showing the bottom of her behind skirt on and a see through shirt,, her PRESENTATION is going to cause a totally different initial perception. Some dont have these ideas about what women and men look like and probably wouldnt draw any conclusion about gender or class based upon clothing , hairstyles, or anything else that the EYE perceives. I think it is not so strange for a feminist to not dress 'feminine' because they are choosing to have the same choice that men do in dressing. I guess it could also be not so strange, philisophically, for a masculinist to wear a bra as it would kind of suggest his refusal to accept societal expectations of what masculine is.

didnt mean to be so wordy, but I hope that was SOMEWHAT of an answer

I am bowing repeatedly to you as I type,,,THANK YOU,,I was thinking I was losing my mind on this,,,lol
I DON'T DO LABELS,,,so GROUP names,,,I can't stand to have them ALL be put there,,whoever them ALL is,,lol
But THIS HELPED me to at LEAST understand that SOMEBODY grasped
MY THOUGHTS of wonder for me to be asking...THANK YOU SO MUCH..
Web sites are in General ALL ABOUT APPEARANCES,,like pics,,THE PEOPLE DO JUDGE MUCH on these pages...and MANY hate it when someone has NO-PICS???
They presume way to much based on ONLY PICS or even ONE pic on here that someone shows....
This is ME here,,When I think of the word or term 'feminist' I think of a woman,,,her ways,,,her persona,,,NOW,,,when I think of masculinity(and thanks for THAT word, lol)I thinkof the cave man guy,,,lol THAS IT ,,on both....
I have been told I carry many feminist qualities, THAT doean't make me feel gay, lol,,because I know who I am. But women have told me that as to me being open and un-opinionated to the generalized male thoughts that many males carry..I have always tried to NOT be like most in ANY form...
I still feel though that my questions should have just been lightly answered and go on with the post,,instaed of all the in-u-windows being trashed at me,,,but such is internet land,,wink,
THANK YOU MIZ Harmony...I APPRECIATE YOU for helping me here...
