A Thousand Tears


Burning
through the cold darkness
with only the warmth
of a thousand tears
is this what loneliness feels like?

My soul aches for another time
when I was a reflection of your joy
when the rain was a reason to make love
and not wallow in the emptiness
of a thousand tears

I close my eyes
and run as far and as fast as I can
yet I’m still here
alone
drowning within a thousand tears

Time passes
though I have yet to move
the world seems to have forgotten me;
just as well
I’m not ready to swim the river of another thousand tears
