I think this has been a topic in the past, but I've noticed it a lot more recently.

Ladies, do you call your significant other "my man?"

Men, do you enjoy when your significant other calls you "my man?"

I've never referred to someone I was dating as "my man." I always thought it was strange. However, it seems as though more and more people are doing so. Why?

The first time I posted something about my man in the forums, I thought for a moment before I decided what to call him. I didn't want to call him my boyfriend because he is a) not a boy and b) deserved something more dignified that being called a high school pet name. The term S/O always seemed as strange to me as my man does to you. So I settled on my man. He really liked that so I stuck with it.

is it really that much different than, "my boyfriend", "my husband", "my lover"... ??

and, no - I would not mind...

I've never introduced anyone as my lover, either? laugh

I don't know.. it just sounds weird to introduce someone and say "Hi, this is my man _____."

Then I guess I'm weird. As long as my man likes it, I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

I have retired pookie from my vocabulary that's what I called my ex husband in the early years.

Also there is Garfield the cartoon cat's stuffed bear named pookie too..

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I was just wondering why people seem to like it so much, that's all! I'd also think it sounds weird to be introduced as someone's woman. laugh

You can use that one for your woman OR your mother.

They will both appreciate it.
