how do you handle when someone gives you the silent treatment? I am rarely speechless so it's a concept I don't quite get lol. I like silence. So it wouldn't bother me. Of course, the last time a woman said the words " Don't touch me " during an argument with me....I didn't. For 3 months. * shrug * |

I just tell them, enjoy your time and take off and go do something that I enjoy.

Sounds like there's something serious going on with said silent person. Maybe their trying to tell you something, but they don't know how to tell you, so being silent is their reaction to whatever it may be. It does sound pretty bad whatever is going on.

There's not much you can do about it though. I don't beg or continue trying to speak with them though. Just walk away. |

The silent treatment can be brutally effective, tho childish. I have found that it takes alot of energy to be angry or upset with someone. So what I do is try to engage them and keep trying. Have fun doing it, make em smile or laugh and its all over.
I think the reason for most silent treatments is that the person giving it knows that what they are feeling is not right or rational and that they have no real arguement that they could defend. So to still get some point across they use it. Engaging them forces them to actually come up with some real reason for it and they will soon drop it rather than try to defend it because they know it will be embarrassing when you poke holes in the silly thing that started it. |

Depending on how well U know the person, just scare them.
say outloud, or while on the phone " So the cops gave me a $5000 ticket yesterday, and the lawyer is not confident." or "hang rope or bottles of tylenol?" "I spit in ur coffee, did it taste funny?" once u break the code, it shouldnt b too hard to make them laugh and then go from there. |

Actually the best way to me is just let them be and have their time to think they will come around in the end. That is if you let them have that time to think as well.
Myself if I really get pissed I would rather quit talking to that person and walk away and have time to think it over before I say something that I would regret. Then come back later and talk it out..... |
