Topic: Do you date "friendship" people?

Why do single people go on Mingle and have it on their profile they are looking for "friendship"? Does this mean that if I contact them and we like each other, there is no hope for a serious relationship because they just want to be friends? Or do they mean something else when they state "friendship"? I saw the slogan on this site and it says "Mingle2 Free Dating for the World". I don't get the link between dating and friendship.

I am out of touch with modern dating. Please make me understand this. Thanks.

For some it would be considered no dating, but only talking as friends. For others, they're taking their time getting back into the dating thing, healing and don't want to bounce in and out. Others realize the long distance thing can be difficult.

Save yourself the worry and only contact people who indicate they are looking for a relationship or for dating or marriage. That way, you'll know where you stand. Good luck.

Shouldn't everything start with a friendship anyway?

I been on this site for almost 4 years now. When I first joined this site. i had it set to dating. After some time, I did meet somone and I changed it to friends only. Well we didn't work out but I kept my profile as looking for friends. Reason being, I deidn't want to jump right back into another relationshiop knowing I have issues to deal with.

So looking at somones profile, and it says friends only. It could mean there not ready, or they want to take things slow. Actually, it could mean many things. But I don't think it limits things with most.

Well, to me it's a waste of time to try to date someone who isn't interested, when there are so many others who are. Like trying to start a car with no gas when there's one with a full tank right next door, takes a few seconds to move on to it, but instead you're fiddling with the empty car and wasting time and energy. I'm not fond of wasting time, but apparently there are those who are. To each his (or her) own.drinker

Interesting, so how should things start out?

If you search under the advanced section, you can go with the type of person you're looking for. marriage, friendship, intimate something or other. Saves you some time.

I don't even read what they look for, or what kind of a biography they fabricated, or what's their favorite food etc... I'm not an employer that seeks qualifications.. I'm not here to browse "resumes".

All I care is that the person is a female and she isn't lesbian. Everything else follows.

Possibly. But if the right person came along friendship might go beyond. And you never know if you don't ask.

If "intimate encounter" is one's choice then a friendship wouldn't be needed. Activity partner, friends, dating, long term, marriage...
all else would require a 'friendship"...as Beachfarmer says...anything good!

Also a good point. Some times there's too much info, and other times, not enough. LOL! Can't win for losing.

I'm one of the friendship people.slaphead

so, I'll tell you my reasons:

Reason #1: I like to take things slow, and personally, if a relationship is going to last with me...I have to know I can actually stand being around that person for an extended period of time.

Reason #2:The only person I've ever really seriously dated from online was...*sigh*...well, it ended badly.

Reason #3: I'm not actually looking for anything right now. If something comes along, then great! But if not, well, I'm fine with that too. I've been single for...2 years now...and I've done just fine till now.

Well, as stated on my profile, I'm here for friends only.

Just think of me as the anti-normal, because right now, it would take three acts of God, one of congress and a bit of GHB to get out of my friend zone.

...And some well-pedigreed show midgets, and a Mercedes S550 and a pony and a little plastic rocket ship...
