Topic: What is Faith?

Faith is not something manufactured inside a person's heart. Faith is
a response to a promise made by someone, other than yourself, on your
behalf. Faith answers the question of why we expect a certain outcome
- not because we wish it to be so; but because God said it! Don't just say "God will take care of me." But always reference a specific
word He has spoken. Faith should always be resolved to a RHEMA. How
do you spell faith? R E L A T I O N S H I P.

Faith is the belief in a proposition without evidence. Faith is lazy, its unreasonable and uncompromising, its the last thing I would consider virtuous.

I imagine, before most technology(and even after, though thats another discusson), people survived without 'evidence'. I wonder , before dna and paternity testing,, how many people believed , on faith I suppose, that their dad was their dad or their uncle was their uncle.

I wonder how many believed without 'evidence' that the world was round even before technology proved it to be.

Because things have not been proven does not mean they can or will not be proven and therefore those things are just as reasonable to believe as they will be once 'proof' is discovered.

Unless something has been DISPROVEN,, it is neither lazy nor unvirtuous to believe it.

Yet faith is an absolute necessity in life - without it you would be a paranoid schizophrenic scared to death to walk out of your house or to deal with and communicate with anyone - on any level.

You might want to reconsider your stance on this - else not "paint your complaint" with such a broad brush.

I agree with Eljay.

In addition, I think that 'faith' not only describes "belief in a proposition without evidence" but also both a state of mind and a tendency of mind. It is associated with confidence, trust, and acceptance. My life is improved if I have bring a mindset of faith to my relationships and to my daily activities. Sometimes it is better not to form propositions and evaluate them for accuracy or meaning - sometimes its simply better to get up do and to follow your heart.

Faith is one's attempt to acheive peace of mind due to the possibility of Divine Interevention ....this is why Faith only applies to religion....Faith is simply Hope....anything beyond that is Witchcraft

from miriam webster(my homie,,lol)

a (1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2) : complete trust
3 : something that is believed especially with strong conviction; especially : a system of religious beliefs <the Protestant faith

Faith applies ESPECIALLY to religion, but not ONLY to religion

I don't think it has to apply to a God. I have faith in my sons...

Faith in your sons for what reason...

For many reasons..
They are intelligent
They are good men
They are honest
They are kind
They are full of potential
They are tomorrows leaders

Mostly it's a mom thing...them knowing they are loved gives them a huge upper hand in a cynical world. What kind of mother would I be if I didn't have faith in them...

Very deep at times with your reasoning..this one was just silly.
Stick to debating religion...not mothering.

Then in (religious) faith 2+2 equals almost 3...

Not true.

We know that all of those things can happen at any time. We go out despite those facts not because we have faith in something that isn't there.

right..because that would mean if you decide to no longer have Faith in them that they would instantly no longer be intelligent or good

I agree.

For example I have faith in myself that I can accomplish most anything I attempt to do. I have no proof that I can do it but I just somehow know I can.

in the marine corp. the guys i knew and went through bootcamp, SOI and in the fleet i call my brothers, and i was told that the sayiing in "black hawk down" by my combat instructor was true" its about the guy next to you." Cause theres a chance that in the battlefield your gonna have to put your faith into that guy or vice versa, because who knows, he probably the one who saves you.

well some people have said that I'm a real mother .....but anyway it's has nothing to do with mothering it has to do with faith...I simply asked you if you made the decision to stop having faith in your sons would they instantly lose their intelligence and goodness

And again..silly-ness. They are grown men...would they suddenly become stupid if I didn't love them or have faith in them. I would think not...

As one who has been a child and one who has been a mother..a parent having faith in you..well, gives a warm fuzzy. Why wouldn't I want my sons to have that?
I have faith in their un-limited potential to make their lives whatever they want..it helps. I choose what to have faith in..I choose them and myself. You can choose also.
I'm not a bebater..as you know.
Now Middle..he'll go all day with ya.

Peace brother. flowerforyou
