Thanks everybody!

It'll be a bit different for me to have to step back from doing the work to delegating others to do it. I'm well respected in my workplace & everyone there already considered me the boss so I won't have any issues with the employees. I'm just hoping I'll like it in the long run

If you are already respected because off the work you do....why would you stop doing it??

Get in there with everyone else and get your hands dirty.

Otherwise, you may find yourself losing the respect you have gained. People will start whispering about you " not doing the work because you are a manager now so you don't think you have to ".

You can be in charge, and still get in there with everyone else. Maybe not at the level you did before, but if you are still willing to do it, the people working for you will be more willing to WORK for you.

And don't forget to recognize when someone is doing good work. Sometimes you don't have the control to give them a raise, but perks (you can leave a little early, I'll cover for you or arranging a good schedule for them) if it's in your power are incentives that others will see and want also. Bring sandwhiches on a holiday if all have to work, little things that everyone will recognize you care about them and their work, most of all be fair and watch out for the ones who have ulterior motives.

The company I've been working for for a year or so has been growing like crazy recently. New location and now a bunch of new employees. The owner was doing the management tasks but now doesn't have the time since it's gotten so busy so today he made me manager.

As far as pay goes, I don't think I'll be getting a raise but now I get to use a company car for business & personal use, basically it's mine. The pay's pretty good anyway.

I've already been bossing the new guys around anyway but now it's official. pitchfork

isn't that sort of like getting a hole in one, where you have to buy everyone in the clubhouse a drink?......well, both of my mugs are empty drinker

My motto has always been "inspire them to greatness from within, don't beat them into submission from the outside" ... congratulations and embrace the personal growth. flowerforyou

Congrats!!!!!

There have been several people whom have demanded respect in my professional career.

There also have been a choice few whom have earned it. I went to the professional ends of the earth to support their vision(s).

Pick up a broom......and I will follow you anywhere!

EDIT: I just realized that I've said the same exact thing that Sherrie (above me) just said.....only with more words.

Learn from those who are economical yet poignant!flowerforyou
