Why put the mother and family through this when the prognosis is so utterly futile?

^because every birth is a chance regardless, life is not to be selective if it is, then why not just clone everyone....

Couldn't look at the pictures of anencephalic fetuses, could you? To re-iterate, the condition is invariably fatal, so there is NO chance. As for throwing something at the wall to see if it sticks, cloning has nothing to do with it. It's a non sequitur.

Life IS selective at every turn, and doesn't bow down to dogma. That's why old men's sexual advances towards young women are almost universally spurned, for one example. Probably has something to do with the female instinctively seeking the most desireable and viable DNA.

For another, consider that as many as 10% of conceptions fail in the first weeks and are spontaneously aborted by Mother Nature Herself.

let me give you a little history of me, I've seen a man put a shotgun in his mouth and pull the trigger, seen people stabbed to death over packs of cigarettes, seen little children gunned down in the streets because they were in the way of fueding drug dealers, so not much upsets my stomach or shocks me, still your point is moot with me because my grandmother died giving birth to my father and she was told the risk and still made the choice, had she not of I wouldn't be writing this as we speak, people talk of giving and of sacrificing, there is none greater than for the benefit of the child. Yes granted some births are not beneficial, and then again we are not God either and sometimes the result has a purpose we can't forsee....although to be honest I'd love to be God for one day....
