I love all dogs but since I live in a apt. I've a 5 yr old Pug,who is very loyal and spoil. I would like to have another Chihuahua but landlord says no.frown My daugther-in-law had a Yorkshire because she didn't shed. I think Beagles are so cute. Just take your time,When you find the right one,you will know it,for it will feel right in your heart.

If you go the rescue route, a lot of small dog rescues won't adopt their dogs to people with young children. Too many horror stories of the kids being bit by the dog, or small dogs being killed by children.

I know the couple of groups I work with absolutely refuse. They've both taken in small dogs that were injured by the owners kids and the owners didn't feel like paying the vet bill and dumped them into rescue.

really? so what do you suggest?

You may have to hunt for groups. Or really talk to the rescue people. Or consider a larger dog then Yorkies, Chihuahuas, Chin, etc.

hey i have some medicinal remedies.

my dogs barf after eating grass. sometimes barf is different colors. but if it is yellow or green, that could be bad with grass. yellow is bile, and green well u will have to look that one up...digestive juices maybe...

don't ever put anything like a herbicide on your grass if they eat it. weed n feed...don't know about....weed killer bad. ........fertilizer i spose would be bad, and definitely don't let them eat the mice outside if you have dicon out or spray for rodents...if they burp u know they ate a mouse. for some reasons unknown to me, dogs like carion too. and cat poop if your neighbors let their cats loose to poop in your yard. dogs love cat snit.

then, feed them cooked white rice with boiled chicken if they have stomach upset. and it does not hurt to use bland food like yogurt, and cottage cheese mixed in...to help with digestive upsets.

and one last thing, if you have a dog that has been hurt, is cold, sick or has some malaise, and u just can't get him to the vet, and he seems depressed, try this trick......
sleep on the couch that night, and put the dog at the end covered up near u. or put him/her right beside your bed, where you can hear him, and he can c u. i have done this many times, and it has helped an ailing dog's attitude.

and if u have a frequent/revenge pee-er like my dobie, then don't feed him breakfast early, feed him right after you get home, then let him out immediately. don't be gone more than 4 hours. leave him with a chew toy or the radio playing. my dobie likes "brooks and dunn".

does anyone else have any heloise hints about dogs?

Yes.

Your dog is not a small child do not treat it like one.

my dog is not a small child but i treat him with the respect of taking care of him like he was a child. he gets the best.
and FWI withholding medical treatment when a dog needs it is against the law in WA state.
so if your dog needs vet treatment, u better find out what your law is...flowerforyou

I was speaking in terms of training. It had nothing to do with medical care.

Training is crucial and having your dog socialized as well.
Don't be fooled into thinking that just because a dog is small they don't need a lot of training. All dogs need good and sound training no matter their size. Its just more noticiable in larger dogs.

My dog is scared of riding in the truck and always hides under the seat.

Thing is, she always wants to go and jumps in when I let her go.

Where I live there is actually a bilaw that dogs must harnessed in the seat.
I realized how important this was one day when my Golden Retriever was still a pup and jumped from the back seat to the front and on top of my foot which I ended up doing 80 k down a 35k street. This could have ended up badly!

okay MTDT....we r talking about training now not medical. YUP train ur dog. If u don't know how, go get professional help. I could use this advice myself.
