Seriously why do people hate the French? I understand that their government has done some bad things in the past involving their colonization of other nations and underground nuclear testing. But when people tell me they hate the french they do not give me reasons such as those. No, they just hate the French. No reasoning, no logic. I understand if you hate the government, but the people too? It just seems illogical to hate an entire ethnic group. People got mad because they would not help us in an illegal war but they have their own interests to worry about. Plus they gave us the Statue of Liberty as a token of our shared friendship so we should be grateful to them for that. I know that our cultures may clash but we are all human beings with human characteristics. We are all more alike than we are different. So again, why do people hate the French?

I know some were pissed off because France didn't want to be part of the invasion of Iraq...

I guess they had their own stuff to deal with at the time. Being allies means we are cool with each other but we do not always have to agree. This time The United States and France didn't agree on something. It is like fighting with your parents because they won't let you go to the movies. But you don't hate them for it. You just move on.

Some took it very personal I suppose...I don't blame them for not wanting to get involved. If I would have had any choice I would have declined also. My mother stopped shopping at Target over it..she says Target is French owned. I don't know the facts on that. But she actually stopped shopping there because the French didn't want to be part of America's invasion. whoa

I've heard that the typical french are hard to get along with; I have a few french friends and think they're just like anybody else; it's stupid to think someone can be god or bad based on his/her origins. That's what I think.

That's because they have their own intelligence agency and knew the American and British Govs were fabricating intel to justify the invasion.

Probably dates back to the liberation of France during WWII. Over the following decades, as American tourism increased over in Europe, I think the French gained a reputation of snobbery, looking down their noses at the Americans who could not possibly appreciate their centuries of history, art, literature, etc. Maybe Americans just expected everyone to love them over there, since we saved their a$$es. You know the old saying: "a few bad apples..." It probably was just a generalization, caused by some bad experiences, and the reputation spread.

Personally, I found the French people to be very accomodating, helpful and respectful, but then again, I never acted like I was Uncle Sam, and they were my little French biatches, while I was there.

I've traveled all over the world. Some people absoulutely love you, when they find out you are American, some hate you, and some really don't care whether you are American or not: they just like you if you are cool to them.

they probably have their reasons. I have never met a French person or been to that country. I don't hate anyone.

I've been in France numerous times and what I can't get used to is this:
I make a lot of effort to speak french but when I don't get it right - they show no mercy.

I love their fries, toast and kisses

why does anyone hate anyone, regardless of ethnic background, because their own lives are miserable, if they weren't there wouldn't be enough time to hate others, they'd be having too much fun enjoying life.
