I am trying to find a pattern for making crochet book covers with yarn. I found the needles and crochet board. I am not sure what you call it but it looks like wafer with lots of holes in it.

Ummm, why?

Keep the books warm or something?

How does one read the title of the book if its covered?

I am not sure what you are talking about when you say--crochet board. Is it soft and plyable, made out of heavy string or is is hard plastic? When you say needle I am thinking you are reffering to needle point canvas.

Most paterns that are a gridded type like needle point or cross-stich can be used. Actual crocheting is not usually done on a board or plastic canvas. Crochet is done with a sort of code patern ( 2dc= two double crochet) and a hook.

I hope this helps. If not e-mail me with more details if you want.

Walmart has it in the craft section. I guess the best way to describe it is like a window screen. It is white plastic and pliable. I was wanting to protect the book and have the title needlepointed in. In the craft section it is shown to hold a form like a cube or cylindrical. Yeah, it is the gridded type.

It sounds like plastic canvas, it is a needle point type of craft. If you have graph paper you can fill in the graph with the design you would like. Each square on the graph paper corralates to a cross point on the canvas. Stitch over each cross point on the canvas ( keeping your stitches going all the same direstion. or you could just use a running straight stitch to "write" the title you want over the "bars" part of the canvas. To adjoin the sections or pieces, use a simple whip stitch to put it together. Hope this helps.

Is everyone sure the plastic stuff against the book won't cause as much damage if not more against the book? Between plastic breakdown over the years, and scuffing and rubbing, it may be doing more damage then the books being as is.

Heck dusting and basic upkeep of books protects them rather well. I've never had any damage to my books over the years, or my folks even with moving.

Those are good questions. In our case we all have copies of the same book. So having your copy of the book personalized is kind of cool. I bought the paperback copy of the book so it will make the book stronger. On another book the outside is already not in good condition. When I bought my friend a copy of the book she didn't have enough money to buy a copy. She is just now getting into this type of crocheting and her friend is going to help her get started with it tomorrow. I think it could be a great fund raiser. I mean you ought to see what home made stitchery can get you in these rural areas from the tourists.

Oh nifty. I just had address labels made that say "From the Library of" and full name. Inexpensive and I can get a lot of the made up, and that differentiates between everyone in the family, especially when I have to buy duplicate books for others.

I went back to see if Walmart had any of the plastic canvas (Plastic canvas sounds like a weird name for it.) and they were out. My friend asked me if I had a smaller book to start out on and and I gave one to her. She and her girlfriend are excited about getting started on the project. Kind of lets you know how boring it can get out here in the boonies.laugh
