Yeah. You just can't be conceited. You have to be convinced.

OK, so I looked up "arrogance" and got this:
"an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions." I've been called "arrogant" more than a few times, which is one reason I started those "Arrogant Narcissistic Conceited Jerk" threads awhile back. And those were really excellent, weren't they? But I digress. My point is, if we're talking about the need for "presumptuous" claims, in order for the term "arrogance" to be invoked, then doesn't that more or less automatically allow for the fact that what some may PERCEIVE as "arrogant" may, in fact, be an entirely justified attitude on the part of another, as long as the underlying assertion is not inherently "presumptuous"? I remember reading a book about a baseball player, and I want to say it was Reggie Jackson, but I'm not certain of that. Anyway, the player made the remark that "It ain't bragging if you can back it up." Is the perception of "superiority" always erroneous? I don't think so. |

You people (with the exception of Lex) were assuming I was referring to myself. In actuality, I did no more than make a statement.
