Windows machines you can get more bang for you buck. Every program imaginable is made for windows too. Problem is, so are viruses.
Get a Mac if you have some extra cash and simplicity is your thing. You will be limited hardware and software wise but that's not a problem if it's just grandma checking her email. I don't really get the argument that macs are better for creative types (photos, music, video). Just about every pro software program is also available on Windows with only a few exceptions. I use a Windows 7 machine for my recording studio |

So 500.00 is not affordable? LOL The kind of Mac that I would need to do my kind of work (graphics, music, digital recording studio, multimedia) is not available at $500. |

I work on Macs all the time & know all about new Macs. The hardware equivalent of my recording computer would be in the two to four thousand range if I got a Mac. The five hundred dollar Mac Minis you guys speak of are not an option and neither is an older Mac off ebay. Price is still an issue with Macs, and to a lesser extent, so is software availability |

I work on Macs all the time & know all about new Macs. If that were true then you wouldn't have said what you said... The hardware equivalent of my recording computer would be in the two to four thousand range if I got a Mac.
Not true! There is no way that you'd require more than any professional engineer does and Logic Studio and every Mac sold today can run it. All you'd need to do is upgrade the memory from 1 gig to 4 (for any larger EXS instruments) and even the Mac mini can handle 4 Gigs these days. With Snow Leopard new Mac's can support 16 terabytes of memory, and 64-bit applications like Logic Pro 9.1 and MainStage 2.1 can fully take advantage of this larger memory capacity. Third-party developers also create products especially for the Mac. Apogee and Euphonix, which are two examples, and both are renowned for their audio hardware, have entire product lines completely devoted to musicians who work on a Mac. Literally thousands upon thousands of professional engineers/musicians use Macs everyday for their productions. More and more everyday people are learning the truth about the new crop of Macs available, and they are switching to Macs for their production work. Hey if you want to use a peecee for your recording then have at it, enjoy... no skin off anyone else's butt, but just don't try to suggest that Macs are in any way inferior because I've been a recording engineer for over 35 years (not brag'in, just say'in) and that dog just won't hunt (sigh... still miss the Teac A3340S days...every now and then I have to view this): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc0JqDjA4IU . |

Im a PC type of guy because I'm hands-on. PC can save you money by trouble shooting everything. for the most part PC's tell you (or show you what's wrong) it will take at least an hour if its a complicate issue. on the other side apple will trouble shoot the issue for free, but you have to pay a good amount if you want it fixed (unless you are covered). I love PC because it's open. Each has their pros and cons. PC works best for me. |

It's like a laptop, only just the screen part (very thin). If you tap the screen then it turns into a keyboard. The A4 chip was custom designed by Apple specifically for the iPad. LED-Backlit IPS Display. Multi-Touch (better than even the Macbook Pro). Up to 10 hours of battery life. Built-in 802.11n plus 3G available. This video explains it all better than I ever could:
http://www.apple.com/ipad/#video The video covers a lot so it may take a while to load up. Even more information can be found here. When I go traveling this summer I'll be using the iPad instead of lugging a laptop around with me. I can't wait start playing around with it. iBooks is going to rock on this thing . |

My lil girl wants an itouch for her b'day ... ... Perhaps this would be the better investment for her? She wants the ipod thing/part most ... ... She has my old XP2000 for a puter! ... Thanx for the link, I'll go study! ... Fellow research factoid geek in the house! Edit ... PS ... ... She is an 11 yr old klutzy terror ... not careful at all, yet! |

Also ...
I bought the $100 endless, private tutorials for a year package from the Apple Store. I've been going w/out activating it, that I fool around on it and get my questions and needs a bit formulated first. Pass along anything you glean I'd be blessed to be taught about Apples! Cheers, my good and fine friend ... (As our beloved, Lo, would say ... ) ... |

My lil girl wants an itouch for her b'day ... I'll be selling my iPod Touch as soon as I get the iPad... I bought it mostly so that I could have a ton of music in my car, but the car has it's own hard drive for this already so.... |
