Topic: Study: Slowdown in warming last year not permanent

WASHINGTON – Climate researchers say cooler temperatures in North America last year do not mean global warming is easing.

Their report comes just days before President Barack Obama goes to Copenhagen, Denmark, to speak at a United Nations conference on climate change.

Rising temperatures over decades have prompted scientific concern, and the last decade has been the hottest in thousands of years, according to climate records. However, the warming eased a bit last year over North America, and groups seeking to deny climate change seized on that in an effort to challenge the idea of overall warming.

North America wasn't as warm as expected because of cooler water in the North Pacific, but the rest of the world continued to warm, the university and government researchers said Friday.

Come on scientists. Let's here your theories.

I think most people agree that there are climate changes. It changed several times, even in the time of the first written words found in stone.

Egypt used to be like a Mediterranian land and not desert, same with Babylionia/Mesopotamia which was a fertile land once (Iraq today). Back in the day Once, the entire Canada and a good portion of USA as well as Europe was covered with an thick ice sheet, similar to Iceland or the Antartica.

The Pre- Native Americans crossed to USA- according to some theories- from Asia/Russia/Siberia through the frozen sea between Alaska and Russia (just a theory). They did not grow out of the ground here.

Once upon a time (or several times) there was so warm, that animals that can only be found in Africa or Brazil, also were home at Siberia and even Dinosaurs roamed around in Greenland, because it had a thick rain forest vegetation.

Before that, there were times when the Antarctica and neither Iceland (and neither the Polar caps) had ice on them, and even before that, Dinosaurs roamed around on place that are still covered with ice.

The oceans were warmer too..the weather was different and the athmosphere contained more CO2 , probably 5 times as much.

What we argue is not how the climate changes regarding various factors, but how some trying to rip off people using taxes, by blaming the people for "global warming or cooling" .

Take that.

There is nothing we can do about it, i refuse to pay taxes because of it.

Taxes?

What we do is get away from carbon based fuels.

I'm fine with that..but not fine with carbon taxes and cap&trade business based on how much CO2 is released into the air. If anyone thinks that only corporations and big factories would get the tax, is hugely mistaken. China the biggest manufacturing polluter as well as India already said, they won't pay a damn penny anyway, so the responsibility and heavy tax burdens are gonna have to be carried by Europe and USA.

Africa - being the least polluting nation actually demands reparations paid. I watched this yesterday on Global Impluse.

f...k that.

Really,
That's interesting!

But if you don't find a way to fine those who fail to reduce the emissions, do you think they are going to do it voluntarily?

I doubt it, and then how will you get anyone to invest in the green energy fields?
That's been the problem for the last 30 to 50 years.
We can't afford to wait another 30 to 50 years.

Another laughable topic.

States have been reporting record cold temps in the winter.

Is that why they changed the name from Global Warming to Climate Change?

Who, in their right mind is going to tell, Super Power, our banker, Communist China to quit polluting? Sure's heII ain't gonna' be Hussein. Not even droppin' to his knees would convince 'em.laugh

Just across the border in Mexico, smoke billows daily from AAmerican owned factories. Mexico done went and said, the U S can't tell them what to do.

I just checked. No one on Manhattan Island is dumping property to avoid water damage. Al Gore must know something we don't. He just moved into a big freakin' office building there.

Obviously you don't understand global warming.
With Global Warming comes the melting of the world's ice sheets.
This causes an influx of ice cold water into the worlds oceans, and thus changes the ocean currents.
This in turn causes climate change. It is different in different areas of the world.
Areas that were once warm may become cooler while areas that were cool become warmer.
The changing ocean currents also change the air currents. Places that were once abundant in rain fall become dry and visa versa.

Either way, plant and animal species confined by human habitation become locked in place. Unable to migrate they will become extinct.

It is a very serious subject which requires the involvement of scientists, industry, and the public.

There are whole fields within the scientific professions devoted to this so please don't feel bad if you can't understand it all.

The planet is going to warm and cool, it is part of it's cycles.

We had best be ready for the changes as they come.

If we are the cause or acceleration of it then WE NEED TO STOP POLLUTING THE PLANET WE NEED TO LIVE ON SO WE DON'T DIE.

we do need to get away from petrochemical energy though

that is 20th century outdated technology. The internal combustion engine is about the most wasteful way to use energy. Most of it is wasted as heat and then even more energy has to be used to circulate water to cool it down

from stuff I've read, it appears there is about a 30 year or so lag time between the appearance of ozone depleting gases and their affect on the atmosphere

so we are seeing the effect of thirty years ago. and if we cut all emissions to zero right now, the effect will continue for thirty more years

so no matter what we do we better get used to a warmer planet

The 18 scientists wrote the governor and legislators Oct. 26, urging them to "consider separating the science from the policy issues." They challenged lawmakers for giving the "fringe" position of a climate skeptic equal weight to that of the broad, scientific consensus that climate change is happening, largely because of human activities.

About;
This blog is a compilation of my thoughts on various subjects. I’ll post my game reviews here, I’ll comment on events going on in the news or on other websites, and I’ll also give my opinions on things that I come across in life.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why I’ve turn off the comments, it’s because the left-wing liberals and other Christ-haters already have the media machine going for them; they don’t need yet another outlet to vomit out their retheoric. There’s nothing that I can say that is going to change their mind, nor is there anything they can say to change my mind. God, alone, will have to open hearts to change; anything else is futile.

LMAO
Seriously,
I refuse to go any further.
Let's get serious and offer informative links.
The subject is serious and deserves an unbiased discussion.

The theft of the e-mails and their publication online — only weeks before the U.N. summit on global warming — has been politically explosive, even if researchers say their content has no bearing on the principles of climate change itself.

Virginia Burkett, chief scientist for global change research at the U.S. Geological Survey, told The Associated Press that, even if the data and studies mentioned in the e-mail exchanges were ignored, the evidence "is still hugely overwhelming in terms of the rates of changes that can only be attributed to the warming of the atmosphere. That includes melting Arctic sea ice, glaciers and ice sheets, decline of spring snow season, coral reef bleaching and earlier onset of spring in plants and animals," she said, referring to changing patterns of blooming, hibernation, and migration.

"They may be talking three or four datasets in the e-mail scandal, we're looking at 28,000 data sets of physical and biological systems from around the world," she said.

You're right.
Studies show the U S and China are the two biggest polluters.

Who will be the one to insist China quit polluting?
We can't. We'd lose our banker and they'd call in their debt.
