hasn't the postal service ever heard of Background checks???

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Thousands of starry-eyed children all over the world are writing letters to the jolly man at the North Pole this holiday season, but they will not likely get a response from Santa Claus or his helpers.

The U.S. Postal Service is dropping a popular effort begun in 1954 in the small Alaska town of North Pole, where volunteers open and respond to thousands of letters addressed to Santa each year. Replies come with North Pole postmarks.

Postal Service officials said they are tightening rules in such programs nationwide after a postal worker in Maryland recognized a volunteer in the agency's Operation Santa program as a registered sex offender. The postal worker interceded before the individual could answer a child's letter, but the Postal Service viewed the episode as a big enough scare to make changes to the program.

People in North Pole are incensed by the change, likening the Postal Service to the Grinch trying to steal Christmas. The letter program is a revered holiday tradition in North Pole, where light posts are curved and striped like candy canes and streets have names such as Kris Kringle Drive and Santa Claus Lane. Volunteers in the letter program even sign the response letters as Santa's elves and helpers.

Why do people lie to children anyway? Kinda wrong I think. "Don't forget sweety... if you don't behave, the big fat man with the elves won't make you your xbox this year"

And then when they do find out there's no santa, they're all upset and disappointed. Thanks mom and dad for setting me up to get lied to and let down... ohwell

we need to mess with christmas and other religious crap even more in my view. such indoctrinating of our children in their cognitive years has resulted in a history of atrocities such as the inquisition, the crusades, the salem witch trials and this fvcking jihad that we are forced to endure today, not to mention bombings of family planning clinics. if you adhere to and support a religion you're part of the problem as i see it.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,

"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."

As far as Christianity goes, Christmas I'm ok with. It is ok to have some things sacred in this country...Christmas being one of them. When I get to a check out at the store and the shithead says happy holidays I demand they wish me Merry Christmas. Happy Thanks Giving and Merry Christmas to you all...I'm out!

sorry to say, my indoctrination(as you call it) into a value system of love and forgiveness and self respect did not result in any of those atrocities you speak of. Those atrocities are present with or without religion because of the nature of man.

of course not everyone of the god fearing faithful is subverted equally. but enough have been to cause enormous damage to humanity from these atrocities done "in the name of god" and then excused as "god's will". none of such terms are mine and i never use them. as i'm mostly around christians, i tend to mostly hear it from christians. that you and people like my daughter happen to be kind people, does not mean that no christians have been influenced by their faith act less than nicely toward their fellow man. a potential klansman must first avow his belief in jesus as his lord savior and the son of god before he can join the ranks of the kkk and work violently to quell any race that is not white or any religion that is not christian. and they all refer to themselves as good christians.

That is a rather vicious, degrading, and stupid remark. We are talking about Christmas and nobody associates Christmas with Salem witch trials, bombing of abortion clinics,or other atrocities.Christmas is Americas favorite holiday and it holds many of Americans favorite memories.Christmas brings families together, helps the poor, unites town and communities all over America. It is a time of Peace, love, and forgiving.Lights,Christmas trees and decorations go up,parties festivals and celebrations happen. It is a fun time for Americans not to mention you get a few days off from work.People bring you gifts, you wind down your busy life and enjoy watching Christmas movies.

Ignore what I said and feel free to teach your children about the atrocities of religions on Christmas and how bad they are.Give them memories they would rather forget.Don't show them Christmas lights, don't let them watch Christmas movies because it's all associated with Christianity and according to you it's a big problem in America today.

Sounds like some whiny little brats running around, if they're all upset about something as innocent as Santa.

We had no problems when we found out, and it became another family game. Dad still gets coal from Santa every year or two.

I still maintain that is far from the majority that commit these atrocities, if it were common it wouldnt be seen as atrocity but as the norm. A meateater can call themselves vegetarian all day, doesnt make it so and doesnt justify lumping real vegetarians in with his actions if he chooses to harm others.

LOL this guy kills me. How about the atrocities committed by the Monguls? They had no religion. Let's not forget the endless genocide that goes on in Lao and Cambodia..again carried about by people with no religion. And the millions that died in Soviet Russia when they banned religion. People are quick to blame religion for wars but as history shows, more have been carried out over land and a complex to dominate the world.

Jesus was a Jew.

What group hates everything about Jews, aside from the white supremists?

Give you a hint. If they don't convert, cut off their heads.laugh

the topic is not mongolia, laos, cambodia or russia. the topic is a christian celebration. i celebrate no religious holidays in laos or cambodia nor anywhere else because all attrocities committed by groups i find despicable whether they be god fearing, atheist or otherwise. what cannot be denied is that as with much of the attrocious behavior against humanitity, much has been committed "in the name of god", whatever god, and excused as "gods will". if you consider yourself a "good christian" great. i just wish you could tell me what a good christian is because many claim such and though some do reach my standard of "good", many do not. christianity does not guarantee that an anherant will be good.
