we need to mess with christmas and other religious crap even more in my view. such indoctrinating of our children in their cognitive years has resulted in a history of atrocities such as the inquisition, the crusades, the salem witch trials and this fvcking jihad that we are forced to endure today, not to mention bombings of family planning clinics. if you adhere to and support a religion you're part of the problem as i see it. This is sad ... on so many levels. |

LOL this guy kills me. How about the atrocities committed by the Monguls? They had no religion. Let's not forget the endless genocide that goes on in Lao and Cambodia..again carried about by people with no religion. And the millions that died in Soviet Russia when they banned religion. People are quick to blame religion for wars but as history shows, more have been carried out over land and a complex to dominate the world. the topic is not mongolia, laos, cambodia or russia. the topic is a christian celebration. i celebrate no religious holidays in laos or cambodia nor anywhere else because all attrocities committed by groups i find despicable whether they be god fearing, atheist or otherwise. what cannot be denied is that as with much of the attrocious behavior against humanitity, much has been committed "in the name of god", whatever god, and excused as "gods will". if you consider yourself a "good christian" great. i just wish you could tell me what a good christian is because many claim such and though some do reach my standard of "good", many do not. christianity does not guarantee that an anherant will be good. The definition of good is to subjective to go into such a definition of GOOD christian. I can say that an OBEDIENT christian, one who follows the example of christ, carries on in their life making decisions that would be pleasing to God, loving their neighbor, praying forgiveness for sin, and showing respect to human life. IN the short form, one who is following the golden rule and abiding by Gods laws in the commandments and Jesus sermon on the mount,,,,,obedient christians love their neighbor in spite of sin and leave the judgement of the soul of others to God. |

Can we just stop messing up the joys of childhood and forcing children to become adults too soon? Kids love Santa Claus and the belief that their dreams can come true!!
Halloween is not the same cause some idiots put razor blades in apples years ago. Now we want to take away letters to Santa!! Next, we will be taking away Disney and Cartoons because they are not REAL!! Yet as adults we can have SciFi movies and go on dating sites believing that we will meet the right person. Why? Because as human beings we like to believe that dreams can come true. Sorry about the rant but I am so tired of kids being forced to grow up to soon!!! |

I've read the posts, was not going to comment until I read yours. Me like this post  You make a very good point, will some see that point? Probably not or they won't care.  Are we corrupted adults because we believed in Santa, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy? No, there's nothing wrong with it, they eventually learn it's not true. Let the kids have it, let them believe, so freaking what.

First of all, if there was a Santa Claus, he would be a child sex offender. He's an old man that sneaks into home, looks upon sleeping children, steals milk and cookies and offers "gifts" for our silence.
Second, the other fairy tale is just as implausible. Third, we didn't celebrate Christmas in the U.S. until the 1880's, because it was considered an "English" holiday. It was sold to us by Sears and Roebuck, so it is not a "Christian" holiday, it's a store holiday, much like Valentines. Four, it is an incredible waste of personal income in a time of economic depression. Even if you can "afford" it, the mindless giving of trinkets is a poor example to set for children. Five, the holiday season is also the time of year with the highest suicide rate, because all the media loves to show how everyone is happy with a family, leaving the fringe people in our society even more depressed. Six, Walmart has enough money. Happy Effin Holidays |

The definition of good is to subjective to go into such a definition of GOOD christian. IN the short form, one who is following the golden rule and abiding by Gods laws in the commandments and Jesus sermon on the mount,,,,,obedient christians love their neighbor in spite of sin and leave the judgement of the soul of others to God. yes, definitions are always subjective. i suppose i'd have to define me as a good christian in many respects. like you i follow many examples of christ. i make life decisions that would please christ, love my neighbor, show respect to human life. i do better than to follow the golden rule though. instead of doing unto others as i would like done unto me, i consider it more golden to do unto others as THEY would like done unto THEM. i'm a man but would not treat a woman as i'd treat a man. i'd treat her like she wants to be treated, like the woman she is. jesus inspired many, including me, to live my life according to his teachings. i think he'd be quite proud of the way i've lived my life. i just don't have any reason to believe that he was the son of some god or that his mother was a virgin. |

But, I hate the gift-giving thing. And, the pressure to have the perfect family day is too much for me. |

What the heck is wrong with allowing children to have a little hope and faith in things that can't be "proven". If you can remain emotionless when you see a child's eyes light up at Christmas time when they write a letter to Santa or when they come down the stairs on Christmas day......then there is something seriously wrong. IMO, life should not always be about facts and truths and using every opportunity to dispel traditions and beliefs. Sometimes, it's perfectly OK to just allow children to trust and believe. My mom believed in Christmas traditions so much that none of us kids had the heart to even tell her we knew there was no Santa. I still buy her a Christmas book every year and she reads it to the kids along with the traditional "The night before Christmas". It's magical and always gives me goosebumps. |

Why do people lie to children anyway? Kinda wrong I think. "Don't forget sweety... if you don't behave, the big fat man with the elves won't make you your xbox this year" Agreed . Lying to children is bad . The commercialization of the day is just for profit . |

It was the about the only time my kids were guaranteed to get into bed and go straight to sleep, the few nights before Christmas: "Santa's watching!" By the time they were 6 or 7, they figured it out. No big tears or crying episodes. And if that is the worst lie you tell your kids, you're a great parent, in my book. |
