I see a growing trend to hold politicians and entertainers to some high moral compass. I believe in striving to be our best but is it unpopular to accept that everyone is going to fall short? For example, if I say I think Clinton did a good job as president, I get many rebuttals from people who insist otherwise based upon him being an adulterer. A popular newscaster recently said it was 'wrong' to listen to Chris Brown music because of his conviction for assault. What if I just like his music, must he be free from sin in order for it to be ok for someone to enjoy what he produces? These are such confusing times because it seems as if people have fewer and fewer moral boundaries for themselves yet are quick to condemn other PEOPLE for theirs. Notice the emphasis on condemning people and not sin. It is sad to see people not caring about the difference between the two anymore.
There are men who are wonderful fathers but awful spouses,,should their children refuse to acknowledge their contribution to their life because they failed in another area? I just dont get it... |

People in other countries laughed their a**es off at America making such a big deal over Bill-do and Monica, they thought the reaction was silly. I concur, there are far more important things to focus energy on.

I just think peoples personal lives and their jobs are separate things. Everyone will make bad choices but it does not mean that none of their choices are good and those are the choices I wish people werent so reluctant to acknowledge.

I chose the religion thread because of my religious belief that not one of us is perfect. Many people share that belief who arent religious but mine happens to come directly from my religion. I do think there are instances where personal choice can overlap job performance, but those are jobs that require physical standards such as steady hands or endurance...not things that the president usually has to be concerned with. And even then, it would come directly to how well a job they did. If they were smoking pot and still performing excellent surgical work,,it would make no difference. It would only make a difference IF it affected their job performance, which was my original point. That people should be judged in their job by their JOB performance and not their personal lives. |

I just dont get it... it depends on what is meant by awful spouses...because there are wonderful fathers that may abuse or attempt to kill the wonderful mother of their wonderful children, everything lies in the eye of the beholder, that's why there are laws to regulate and courts or moderators to settle disputes if they can not be worked out by the individuals involved |

since this is in the religion forum and framing it as a Christian point of view, everyone is a sinner and no one gets into Heaven based on their actions in life but in the Grace and forgiveness of a compassionate God
you bring up the Clinton thing. He was not persecuted just for having an affair but for breaking the law in trying to cover up the affair just like Nixon didn't break in to Watergate but broke the law in covering it up |
