I have dedicated more then half of my life helping children that are less fortunate as a Red Cross worker and still continue to participate as a member for the UNICEF programs. It just seems like it will never be enough.

^in that case I have nothing but love and respect for you, the world needs many more to pitch in and do their part, we live in a me me me society and the children and seniors have all but been abandoned and the tragedy is that they end up dying desolate, alone and sometimes even violently just trying to fit in. The real war is in our own back yard, but tis so easy to ignore it and camp out in someone else's front yard declaring it dirty......Keep up the great work:)

Well thankyou for the compliment. That made me happy. I also spend time in a foster home every Friday entertaining the children with magic tricks, telling stories, and spoiling them with candy. I have been serving this home for some time now and even contributed computers with internet access. as of school material so they can study more efficiently. It is in my heart to help each and everyday. It is in my nature.

On Thursdays I help a blind man go grocery shopping and I put away his goods exactly at the same spot in the kitchen each time so he can find it.

All this is done for free, but in the end I feel good about it. Who knows maybe one day I will need help and I hope I can get somekind of help when needed.

Well anyway thanks for the short story and if you have more to share then please do. drinker

Man. How quickly a good thread can be forced off the front page.

cliquing, friendships, self promotion, and envy......sad huh, we'd all love to be read, but the true spirit of writing and being read involves doing the same "reading others"...Heard an interesting quote from a person who wanted the lime light without paying kudos to other writers......"why should I read shakespeare, he never read any of my stuff"....it's that attitude that crushes the spirit of such forums.

This question is for anyone interested in answering it.

What is your latest writing project or what project would interest you if you have the time to create it?

What is the best advice you have received concerning the hobby of writing?

Right now, I'm working on my fourth book, which I'm hoping to have completed by February or March.

Also doing some preliminary work for two projects I hope to release after the "Moving Day" series is complete.

The best advice I ever got was "Don't stop writing."

oops forgot...the best advice I ever received while writing poetry was to cut down on the over usage of filler words, I can't believe how much it has enhanced my writing and tightened it up a tad.

also Never use more than two "I's" in a poem, the reader isn't stupid, they can gather that it's first person after the initial I...by using too many it ends up being an I sore:(

Very good advice and interesting projects going on here at the workshop!

Does anyone often use the dictionary when writing? If so, what online dictionary could you suggest for new writers just starting in the arena?
