here's something else they should get - jobs
Which the cell phones can assist with since they give potential employers a means to communicate with the potential employee.

I think pay phones are still about 25 cents??

What are they supposed to do? Give out the pay phone number and wait next to it for the potential employer to call?

You can't call back on a pay phone.

Yes you can they have numbers that can be called.

Try it.

I worked for the phone company.
And I know a couple of bars that have them in them.
And they can recieve calls.

Granted I am aging myself, but I remember using payphones, receiving calls on pay phones and those without the phone numbers on it, dialing a code and getting the number to that phone

They have to be the exception and not the rule because when people have called me from payphones and I call it back it will not go through it says it is disconnected.

Poor is anyone who lives from paycheck to paycheck for one example. There are lots of definitions. If you have to decide between your phone and food you are poor. If you have to decide what to eat for the night based on what is on sale at the grocery store you are poor. If you have ten buck in your pocket to last two weeks you are poor. Etc...

If you're making $100,000/year and living paycheck to paycheck, you're doing something wrong. There's a big difference between that and living paycheck to paycheck because all of your money goes to bills, food and rent.

Right. But also if someone mismanages their money they can end up poor from bad choices. It still makes them poor regardless to past mistakes.

Guess people that are poor must suffer even more because of selfish pricks. I guess that's why every time people like me try to get ahead and get out of my situation, there are people that want to kick you back down. All over a cheap cellphone.whoa

I hope that wasn't in reference to my question.

I think the main issue here is there is a lot of people getting some pretty good benefits for doing nothing.I feel for the poor and I was one of those people who for a time was sleeping in my car picking up scrap metal on the side of the road trying to make a few bucks.I eventually was able to afford a room in a house where about about 10 other people lived and we all had to share the same bathroom. While living with section 8 people and people that were dirt poor I learned that they really knew how to work the system. They could have the government pay their electric, rent, and other bills. They could get free food from the food bank.Dissability, welfare, and other free income. They were living a pretty good life for not doing anything.

It bothers me that the working poor who pay taxes just like everyone else gets up in the morning, works a job they probably don't like, and comes home to their neighbor who doesn't work, talks on his or her free cellphone, drives around the neighboorhood in a Cadalliac escalade, uses food stamps, and collects a welfare check all for doing nothing but being lazy.

I didnt see in the op anything about joblessness. I think it is unwise to assume that people are poor because they dont have a job. We have a thing in the US called the WORKING POOR and there are more people in that category than you may think.
Welfare reform has created a new form of the working poor who are working low wage jobs, and who are still dependent on some form(s) of assistance, whether it be childcare assistance, medical assistance. subsidized housing, etc...

How do you end this--More give-aways?? People love there free sh-t, even if it's from our tax dollors. You will never see an end if we keep this up--It's all-ways the worker who has to foot the bill!--Gotta say time to stop.bigsmile
Addressing the underlying issues of poverty, as well as what factors play into families continuing the cycle of poverty is a start. I understand the reasoning behind welfare reform, and the intentions of it, but pushing people to go to work without addressing what's going on with them, and within their communities, doesn't lead to job retention and long term stablilization of individuals and families.

Oh please woman. Dont defend the people that dont want to help themselves. I can also guarantee you that most with the phone do not use it for jobs but more for calling up theie friends or "certain" people for more public assistance ;)
Stop h8ing, h8r.
