What is an atheist? --Someone who has no one to praise/blame but her/him-self for her/his accomplishments/failures, who assumes total responsibility for her/his deeds, who does not rely upon any higher power (i.e. deity) for her/his well-being and success, But does rely upon one's own abilities -- phisical, intellectual, or Spiritual (i.e. confidence in one's own capacity for achieving any goal). |

JB - you raise a good point with your word choice. You feel that the word "atheist" paints a picture of non-spirituality - but this is not what the word actually means. So who paints this picture? And should we accept their picture? Ladylid drives this point home further, saying that she is also called a "Godless heathen". For many, the word "atheist' is used to connote a lack of values. Should we accept that premise? All atheist really means is "lack of belief in a diety". Now these people that are calling you 'atheist' JB - they may actually be mistaking you for something else, like a materialist, in which case you are right about them being wrong about you. But they may also just be using the word correctly and literally. If you lack belief in a diety, but are 'spiritual', then you are a 'spiritual' atheist. Ding ding ding! someone brought out the actual definition...thank you Atheist: a disbelief in the existence of deity b : the doctrine that there is no deity Deity : one exalted or revered as supremely good or powerful I dont go for calling people degrading names for their beliefs or lack of. I dont feel atheist should be seen as a put down for anyone who truly is, but then I am not so that is just a guess. I know good people who are atheist, they have a good spirit which makes them spiritual. I think that is why its so pc now to claim to be spiritual but not religious. It says "I have a conscious, but I dont necessarily want to be tied down to any specific set of morals' The atheist denies the existence of a supreme creator and deity. The agnostic just says they arent sure one way or the other. Both types of people can still be spiritual. |

It says "I have a conscious, but I dont necessarily want to be tied down to any specific set of morals' The atheist denies the existence of a supreme creator and deity. The agnostic just says they arent sure one way or the other. Both types of people can still be spiritual. Thats a good generic definition, but I don't think an atheist 'denies' anything. They simply do not believe in a deity of any kind. From the point of view of someone who does believe in a deity, they they might think an atheist is denying what is their truth. In that sense, an atheist and an agnostic are very similar if not the same, except that an atheist may demand proof of the existence of a deity and even then, he may not accept that deity as someone to be worshiped. An agnostic seems to be a person who might be convinced that a deity exists ... by other than scientific evidence. I am not agnostic. Any spiritual being who insists that he is a God to be worshiped and that he created me is under suspect. I simply don't believe him, even if I saw him, and even if he looked like the almighty God. If your description is the proper one, then I have to say that I am an atheist. If my description is the proper one, then I am not. I don't believe that there is a creator, I believe that "That which is" manifests "all that is", and I am "part of that." So if that is 'spiritual' then I am not religious, I am a spiritual atheist. ![]() |

I believe it was Jesus who said, "I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” But, now I forgot what my point was. So, I'll just post this and go have a glass of wine. ![]() I rather suspect that JC was high when he said the above. Or else nobody has been a mustard seed with faith. Or else those who have, also have vested interest in NOT moving mountains. All I know that there has been no mountains moved due to faith. And it is hard to comprehend that things that don't have souls can have faith. |

And it is hard to comprehend that things that don't have souls can have faith. I mean, if someone were so enlightened as to have that much faith, why would they even want to move a mountain? Just to prove that they could? That doesn't sound very enlightened to me. What good would moving the maountain do? Where would they put it? And what would be the overall effect of moving it? Might just as well move a city instead. It would truly screw up a whole lot if other people in a whole lot of different ways. JMHO ![]() |

I mean, if someone were so enlightened as to have that much faith, why would they even want to move a mountain? Apparently, JC has realized it would be very difficult explaining WHAT TELEKINESIS IS -- therefore he substituted the word "faith" for it -- as a main ingredient of the former! ________________ ![]() |
