I love to discuss religion with my mother. She is so much fun. The other
day we were discussing Jesus and she was getting on to me about how long
my hair was getting long. She said I would look better with short hair
and I said Jesus had long hair. She then said you need to going back to
church. She said that the reason that Jesus had long hair was because he
was a Nazarene. She made a good point. So I said I would go to church
but all there were was Christian churches around here and that the last
Church of the Nazarene that I attended was in California.laugh

RainbowTrout,

Jesus was a Nazarene in the sense that he was from Nazareth, not by
oath. Part of the Nazarene oath was to never eat grapes or anything
made from grapes. Jesus drank wine frequently, so he couldn't have been
a Nazarene.

True.

But I think God laughs hysterically, I would.

Still reading up on it. Jesus was not a Nazarite! According to Numbers
6:1-27, a Nazarite did wear long hair. However, Jesus was a Nazarene and
not a Nazarite. While the two words look similar in English, they are
entirely different in looks and meaning in the original language of the
Bible. A Nazarene was one that lived in Nazareth, according to Matthew
2:23. A Nazarite was one who took a Nazarite vow, according to Numbers
6. The Nazarite vow was usually temporary. (Samson and Samuel seem to be
notable exceptions, for their vow was for life. See I Samuel 1:11 and
Judges 13:5; 16:17). The Nazarite vow was a vow of separation. Three
things were forbidden as long as he was under the vow. (1) "He shall
separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar
of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor
of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried." Num. 6:3. (2) He could not
cut his hair. (3) He could not touch or come near a dead body. Num.
6:6-9. laugh

Basically, depictions of Jesus are probably wrong. Jesus looked like
any other man, which means he had short hair. Nazarites grew their hair
long so that they would stand out and because they considered it
humbling. After their oath period was over, they would shave their head
to cleanse themselves.

Eyewitness of the discription of Jesus.

A letter of witness from Publius Lentullus, President of Judea to inform
Tiberius Caesar and the Roman Senate of events in Judea. (this letter
was a portion of the Roman system of keeping the government in Rome
aware of important personages and happenings much like our current
Embassy Reports to the President and Congress).

"There appeared in these our days a man, of the Jewish Nation, of
great virtue, named Yeshua [Jesus], who is yet living among us, and of
the Gentiles is accepted for a Prophet of truth, but His own disciples
call Him the Son of God- He raiseth the dead and cureth all manner of
diseases. A man of stature somewhat tall, and comely, with very reverent
countenance, such as the beholders may both love and fear, his hair of
(the colour of) the chestnut, full ripe, plain to His ears, whence
downwards it is more orient and curling and wavering about His
shoulders. In the midst of His head is a seam or partition in His hair,
after the manner of the Nazarenes. His forehead plain and very delicate;
His face without spot or wrinkle, beautified with a lovely red; His nose
and mouth so formed as nothing can be reprehended; His beard thickish,
in colour like His hair, not very long, but forked; His look innocent
and mature; His eyes grey, clear, and quick- In reproving hypocrisy He
is terrible; in admonishing, courteous and fair spoken; pleasant in
conversation, mixed with gravity. It cannot be remembered that any have
seen Him Laugh, but many have seen Him Weep. In proportion of body, most
excellent; His hands and arms delicate to behold. In speaking, very
temperate, modest, and wise. A man, for His singular beauty, surpassing
the children of men"

There are several others EYEWITNESS accounts of his appearance. Some
list his hair as golden brown, some as red brown, some as brown with a
redish tinge. All list his beard as having a redish hue. All list his
hair as being to his shoulders. All list his hair as being parted in
the center and worn in the fashion of 'the men of Nazerene.

If you were not alive in that time do not speculate, go to the sources
of people that were alive then. There are to this date some 15 or
better eyewitness accounts of what he looked like that have been
discovered in various libraries or collections of antiques and old
writings.

Isaiah 53:2
------------------------------------------------------------
For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot,
And like a root out of parched ground;
He has no stately form or majesty
That we should look upon Him,
Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
------------------------------------------------------------

I go back to the Bible for descriptions. You don't know if any of those
people saw Jesus, but I know that God did.

Spider you amaze me.

That was an offical government report from one government official in
Judea to the Senate in Rome.

It was but one there are several more and they all agree on how he
looked with minor diferences on how they represented hi demeanor.

One of them called him an evil person because he could damage the
repretation of Rome. (because he had chastised hyprocrocy with 'quick
vigor' and might so chastise Rome itself.)

The rest could find (as did Pilat) no offense in him and did not
understand the bitterness and anger of the Jewish 'high ones' towards
him.

One of those discriptions is from Pontas Pilat himself. Another is from
a scribe attached to Herrod to record historical data.

Some of those eyewitness accounts also are accounts of some of the
healings and other such things that Jesus did.

AdventureBegins,

Um...you are going to have to give me a link for the part about Pontius
Pilate. The problem with your story is this: Until recently, there was
no evidence that any such ruler ever existed. The only evidence that
I'm aware of is a single inscription. I think the letter you are
talking about is the one that is a well-known fake, which was written in
4th century AD.

The letter from Pontias Pilat is in the Congressional Library. I
suppose that makes it a fake?

Then there is the Archecko Volumes which are taken from Roman Senate
Dockets in Rome and Constantinople and are a listings of records from
legal actions of the time and are stored at the Vatican in Rome (I
reckon the Vatican must have forged these).

Then there are the writings of the Roman historian Josephus within which
are discriptions of Jesus. These writings were from the 1st century AD.
Check "Antiquities Of The Jews," Book #18, Chapter 2, section 3.

I am not referencing a single disputed Hoax here but several undisputed
historical documents.

and if you want one from the bible.

Psalm 45:1-2
"... I speak of the thinigs which I have made touching the king; my
tongue is the pen of a ready writer'
2'Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy
lips: therefore God has blessed thee forever.'
