It is obvious the pop culture of today has been brain-washed by the media to choke down and swallow the "don't spank your kids" BS...

... and as far as your terrible explanation of how research goes... it goes like this... there is a population... a sample os taken out of the population to do a study... what I am saying is the sample size they are using is puny compared to the total population of the US or the total population of the world. Therefore, you have to take that into consideration when reading the data from the research findings. I am stating the obvious, that these lefty-wingy types most probably had it in mind they wanted to do a study top prove spanking was bad... they get grant money at universities if they state what they intend to study... they get even more grant money if they actually come up with statistics that justify their existence...

... then they appeal to the fairer of the sexes and pour it on with the Oprah reality shows as if it is an absolute fact...

I believe I could prove they are all full of crap

Well then, I'm sure there's a pile of money out there somewhere with your name on it. Go for it!

My point was, as you so not surprisingly overlooked, is that based on your analogy, all research is skewed.

Oh, I just realized the other cure-all for not popping kids on the butt...

... just pump them full of ritalin and brand them as ADHD...

...then throw them a Nintendo/Wii/X-Box paddle, and go shopping... that's the world's best baby sitter...

...and make sure both mom and dad work... let's add that into the equation... and let's drop Junior off at the day care from the time he is like 6 weeks old... so mommy can go back to work.... because we gotta have that big screen TV to plug the Nintendo/Wii/X-Box into... and the DVD player that plays only soccer movies....

in my day teacher's would hit you with ruler's and spank you ! and the parent's was all for it !

The large paddle with the holes drilled in it for velocity increase was hanging on the principals wall 24/7

...and my dad never thought twice about using his belt on my butt-cheeks... and look at me now... an honor student, a scholar... and one of the brighest human beings to walk the planet

so much for kiddie research...

I feel sorry for you, having such a negative view of both children and their parents. Not every family is like that, matter of fact, very few in my experience. Seems to me that you are the one falling for the bs about things. And just as an FYI, mommies go to work not to pay for big screens but to pay for things like mortgages, rent, food, electricity, clothing. It's unfortunate that we live in a society now where one income doesn't cut it anymore. It hasn't in a long time, and not through choice for most of us. It is what it is, though, and we are stuck with it. We do the best we can.

You want to beat your kids and blame them for the world going to hell, no one can stop you. But frankly, we brought the kids into the world and it's not their fault. So taking our frustrations out on them isn't the answer.

As I'm tired of this conversation, peace out. flowerforyou

Another fine research fact from the article... they waited a whole four years before they tested the kid's IQs, etc again... how much BS is that? I would think they would at least test them when they were teenagers, then again when they were into their 20s, etc....

four years.... hmmmm...

it takes about 5-6 years to get a PhD... so some dude probably needed the grant to finish off his doctorate.... and not all students are "A" students like me... man y who graduate with "degrees" and go into research got "Cs" in several main classes... but they don't tell you that when they offer the study out to the media system... they just need to generate more sensationalism which in turn generates more grant monies.... and if a professor doesn't generate grant money, he loses his job or position in the faculty... if he's on a tenure track, and doesn't earn grants, he might not get tenured at the end of 6 years...

You obviously have troubles reading...

instead of popping them on the butts, the modern world is now pumping them full of ritalin and branding (for life, in their conscious and subconscious forever) them as ADHD (aka, later in life will equate to "losers")... as the parents shirk off their parental duties, throw them to strangers in day care, and then wonder why later, little Susie is a crack whore, and little Johnny got shot in a drive by from a rival gang...

I don't have trouble reading..I'm just bored. Your not making sense. Spanking kids is going to change all these things.. think about it. Maybe Johnny is out with his gang buddies because he has learned to be violent by those who say they love him while they raise their hands to him.
Sound silly..maybe, so does what your saying. I raised 3 sons alone..they had and have all the latest and greatest games, were in daycare when they were little because I worked..to take care of them, not get a big TV. They are grown up now and none of them are losers, crack whores or in gangs..and I never hit my sons.

ADD is not equivalent to "loser" (ok, I lied about leaving). Many of the most successful people in this world are ADD and/or learning disabled. Why is that? Oh yes, because they, out of necessity, have to learn alternative ways of learning and doing things. This makes them flexible, adaptable, creative, and hard-working. The only time ADD is equivalent to "loser" is when people use the term out of ignorance and a need to prove their own (lack of) superiority.

Wow. Just wow.

I raised my child without spankings. My child is doing great. That's no BS.

I also believe this "study" is complete hogwash. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a good dusting of the back of the pants if it's come to that point. The only thing that's hurt is the kid's pride. At the very least, it teaches them humility and respect. The parent is in charge, not the child. There is a VERY WELL-DEFINED line between discipline and abuse. Apparently, many of you folks need to learn the difference.

I think it's hogwash that at this point in time people still can't find another solution than hitting...children are very intelligent, they can be reasoned with..they actually enjoy the process of working out the issue..empowers them, helps them make better choices.. It's easier for one to just smack them then to take the time to talk to them.

my mom STILL smacks me

I know it's really hard to believe, but I have a habit of being smart alecky and sarcastic. I know it's hard to believe but I do

and every time I smart off to her she punches me on the arm. and it HURTS

I have seen many parents try to reason with their children in public. The kids are throwing tantrums, catching fits, yelling, throwing things, and the parents try reasoning. Must admit it doesn't work most of the time.

Good thing I mastered the "look" early on.

I think "the look" is much more effective. When ever I see kids acting up in public and they get wacked they just scream louder..doesn't seem to help..
but then I don't get out much.. spock
