sense when does goodwill take in antiques and sell it as a high price

awhile back my sister and i went into goodwill and they had this old cabnet they were selling for $700

and then the other day my mom, sister and my son we were down at the beach and went into goodwill there and they had a old dresser for $600

and i noticed on yahoo they got a donation of a statue that was worth a pretty penny they gave it back to the church...

goodwill is ment to be a thrift and junk store... lately you notice they have been high price..

over the summer my sister and i were at goodwill and looking around and there was this really nice shirt i was thinking of buying and one of the goodwill employee was watching us and i notice the price on the shirt $10 are you insane, we both said that outloud so the guy could hear it.... geeze you can go to the goodwill bins and pay buy the pound and get more for $10
im not about to pay that for a use shirt, on a new one yes.

They get alot of donations from alot of people. They try and sell them at a price to make the most money they can for there charity. They do alot of good work. If you see something like that keep going back if it tinkles your fancy. They will lower the price if they don't sell it.........

Considering that Goodwill is, in effect, a charity. Complaining about the prices is a bit weak, in my opinion.

The price of EVERYTHING has gone up. Period.

Now, I am sure you can still walk into any given Goodwill store and find a shirt for a buck or two....but they have every right to sell the nicer stuff they get for a higher price.

Keep in mind that it's not just poor people who shop at a Goodwill store.

That $700 cabinet and that $600 dresser most likely went to a person who HAS money to buy something like that, but would prefer not to pay the $1400 or so needed to buy it new.

Even rich people can be thrifty.

That's how a lot of them actually GOT rich in the first place.

Goodwill takes all the good stuff and sells it online. They put the junk on the shelf.

i used to work at goodwill about 15yrs ago. and they had price books for small items. they had the old trolls in one time and i went to talk to my supervisor about something and she had the price book out looking up the value of the trolls

Goodwill is not a charity. Goodwill is a business. Check it.

i never said it was a charity. as i know its a business i used to work there.

Value Village (a thrift store chain) used to have very good prices ... they were bought out by WalMart and what do you suppose happened?

i dont go into value village that often for i found there prices were out of wack and they didnt have good quality of clothes as goodwill did

Good post Queen, Goodwill has upped their prices over the years, as they build new stores. Of course when they used to move into a vacant building and sell stuff cheap it was cool. I used to buy my work cloths there. 50 cents for T-Shirts. Goodwill is now for profit. Capitalism at it's best.

they've been doin this forever. some goodwill stores actually have people hwo appraise.
