I was just watching the Republican response to his speech. Obama needs to stop being nice to the Republicans and use his Democratic advantage and get er done as far as I am concerned. He is trying too damn hard to bring a group in that cannot be brought in. Just do it, man. And they talked of their form of healthcare reform and it is basically nothing new. Nothing at all. They do not want to change it. Their only defense is to put a price on life. They are saying that the cost of saving lives is too much. It is actually less than the war in Iraq and that saved how many lives? Is still saving how many lives? Sheesh, just get it worked out and passed already. He doesn't need the Republicans. He is much too nice in my opinion. I was floored by the republican response, it was as if he wrote it 'before' the speech. This man should be ashamed of his response. As for the regurgitation comments, he said a lot more than he has and covered points that I wanted to hear as well, especially about law suites about illegals not being covered, about everyone having to obtain insurance. I was actually one of the best speeches I have hear on this issue. If the republicans that have fostered BS about this plan continue to do so, I will be amazed at their lack of conscience and their steadfast loyalty to the insurance industry. There are 165 amendments offered by republicans in this bill, so if they continue to bash this plan they should all be ashamed. I am reminded once again why I respect this President as a human being so much. |

Obama is an excellent public speaker. A genuine cult of personality. Did you see him speak tonight? |

Gotta love it when a political party basically says " We know what's best for you so just shut up and take it. The people make no difference. They have no voice. At least, not one that matters. As long as they agree with us, they will be heard. The ones that don't agree with us...well..they don't count anyway. " What a GREAT way to run a country. Great idea. Let's just turn this country into a dictatorship while we are at it. I mean, the Dems have control right now anyway. let's just appoint ( oh wait....WE don't have to and WE wouldn't have a choice in the matter anyway if the Dems decided to go ahead and do that ) Obama " President for Life " and get on with it. LOL, it sure doesn't feel too good huh? All of us "normal" folks have been at the mercy of the Republicans in this country for a long long time. Republicans/Conservatives feel they are the moral superior in this country, they feel they are the fiscal superior in this country, they feel they have the right to shove everything they feel is better for ALL down our throats, election after election, they push and shove and try to make everyone feel like they have something wrong with them because they are not like "the republican/conservatives" who by their own admission know what is best for the world and we should all be "happy" they impose their rules on us daily. Obama should stop being nice to these folks, they have never considered being nice to anyone who did not fit them. |

That is how america works when you control both the executive and legislative branches. and dude, please refrain from the name calling and stereotyping... it makes the rest of us fiscal conservatives look bad. The message itself is good, just stick to it instead lol |

So keep your rightwing rhetoric that means absolutely nothing because you wouldn't even know a liberal or socialist if you saw one and it bite you in the ***. I'm sorry, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... I guess people need to reclassify this duck then don't they...lol I am unaffilitated. So I am not even an Independent...lol Do me a favor then: Name one, just one economically conservative principle you agree with. And then explain to me why this healthcare plan will not fail. |

Andrew, I would have thought that you of all people would have found more favor in this speech. I respect you and your concerns, I think you know that.
Seriously. He is not wanting this to raise the deficit, he is not wanting this to go through with out republican support, he has bent over backward to take their ideas into account on all but two things, the public plan, and ... forgive me it's late and I can't think of the other. I know there has to be republicans out there that could work with this plan, there has to be, I just don't see them in the media, instead I see those that pretend to be concerned then say something that stabs him in the back. It just doesn't seem right. I too would love to see this be bipartisan, good ideas on both sides as part of the plan, but all I see are republicans that can't go five minutes before they are spewing the same old false claims they have been making for 2 months. It's so frustrating. I am not one to just fall for anything on either side, but I really do think this president seriously is looking out for people, not the insurance companies and the special interests. |

The Republicans just keep saying, "NO", to anything that Obama wants to do. But....they offer no solutions!!!! They are not helping the situation!
I just saw where Obama was called a liar in front of the world when Obama said that illegals wouldn't be covered. These are the people that he's working with? They are making themselves look even more stupid with their actions and non-actions, IMO. |

I think that when you see this level of obstruction and unwillingness to work with Obama on this, at some point you have no choice. Because you don't see how this could work doesn't mean that it can not. That many people in Washington cheering means that there is a ton of support and they can't all be wrong, yet when they faced the cameras' to the republicans you could almost see steam coming out of the tops of their heads. The only time they stood up and cheered, well half assed cheered, was when Obama talked about reigning in law suites. Why? I can't understand this. I don't care what they are, liberal, conservative, republican, democrat, for heaven sakes work it out and get it done. |

I don't think Obama really wants the republican support. I think they have become pawns in his evil scheme
if his plan works he can tout his leadership skills in the face of adversity if his plan fails he can blame it on the republican obstinacy |

I thought this is the most serious place of all in USA with the most serious people the USA can muster to deal with the most serious issues, which has a worldwide effect. I just can't f...ing believe it!! |

So I am not even an Independent...lol Do me a favor then: Name one, just one economically conservative principle you agree with. And then explain to me why this healthcare plan will not fail. I actually participated in Welfare Reform which made it impossible to lay around and get welfare, economically fiscally conservative ideal done under Clinton. I believe in regulation on all government run programs that limit the clients who can recieve the benefits. I am never prejudice towards them and call them lazy or blame them for the life situation ( which seems to be a republican/conservative thing to do)that got them on benefits. But I believe in the oversight which is fiscally conservative. I can name more but I will leave it at that. As for the healthcare reform bills and suggestions being addressed now. The projections cannot even be close to accurate so the people doing them are being very pessimistic on the costs and results. This health care reform can be done and should be. We may have to adjust it again in the future since it will be new but it will still work. Look back and see how pessimistically they projected the banking collapse, look back at the housing bubble, look at the pessimism on the stock market projections, look at the Y2K fiasco, etc... and so on. They have been pessimistically projecting crap, and it ends up being crap, for the most part, all my life. I think the only things that were not projected correctly were the gas shortage of the 70s and that damn 9/11, which could have been prevented if they would have only examined it and got really pessimistic over the intel. Hell they did more work trying to make Obama some evil figure than they did protecting us before and on 9/11 |

Well these are folks that absolutely can not let go of their opposition to this president and anything he says. I don't pay any attention to them. I want only to hear from thoughtful people on both sides. Obama has incorporated 165 republican amendments to this bill, that shows his willingness to work with both sides. Obama said we have a mutual responsibility to deal with this issue once and for all, and frankly his is right. |
