Well we got a while to think of what to do

Styx...that WAS my name...but I had to change it to a more normal
sounding name...its now Popplehead ..LOL

Good luck you two...I'm sure everthing will work out

I say, do whatever makes you comfortable. Why not simply keep your
own?????????

I suppose asking the question "Why get married?" would not go down to
well???

How about just change both of your names to Mr Janet and Mrs Janet Smith
by deed poll, and then anonymity is assured.

What about either or's mother's maiden name? Do you like either one of
them?

My vote is for selecting a family name you both like and making that
your new surname. :)

Why not just make up a new last name that you both like?
Sorry if this has already been suggested...I'm just putting in my
2-cents worth

The choice of the name should be mutual. Just remember that any name you
choose, children will carry that name also for many years.

There were two cases in England in the 1960s - 1970s
when changing your name was some weird and wonderful trend and was in
fashion,

John James was ok, but the surname Chuckabutty (Literally, throw a
sandwich), caused derision in the local press.

And the other one was

Hedgetrimmer Peasmould Futtock. Now that just beggars belief.

The poor kid suffered a living hell until he was 16. He went to court,
sued his parents for mental cruelty, and then hung himself in the sports
changing rooms at his local school.

More recently, Famous rock and movie stars have also adopted the trend.
I don't think they even considered the child at the time.
Just trying to gain more public attention maybe? Who knows.

So whatever name you come up up with. Then makes sure for the sake of
your offspring, that you make the right decision.

The only problem with changing your sur names is that it may chop down
your family tree. It would make it more difficult for your offspring to
chase down their heritage if everyone keeps swapping names. A family is
USUALLY proud of their name because it connects them to their
forefathers. I respect your wanting the perfect name but are you
shunning the people that survived all the hardships of past generations
who actually put you here on this earth? I thought my name was funny too
till I researched my past and found it to be a very prestigious name in
other countries and was linked to some very fine upstanding cirizens.
Don't go off half-****ed and throw your ancestry in the dumpster till
you look at who created you. www.ancestory.com is a good way to start.
They are allowing free access for a short time to go back and trace your
lineage. If anybody has recorded it. It will be there. they have
compiled records from all different sources to make it easier to get
information about your past. Don't make a shallow decision that you may
regret later in life at your family reunions.

i have to agree with katie on this one .. well partly.. im old fashoned
too i think the woman should take the last name of the husband.. why i
think that i dont really know..just the way it is..

as far as being ashamed of your last name... why? that is your name
given to you at birth ..only you make that name... why should something
evil continue to control you that bad? you make your name..and you
should be proud of you...your name should be what you make of it, not
what someone else has made of their name that happens to have the same
last name as you...

now as taking chris's last name.. katie why would you want anything
else? because that is still his name and that is a part of chris.. the
part you love.... hope this makes sense...deb

It could possibly cause some issues down the road with credit ...public
records etc....as long as you indicate FKA or formerly known as...I deal
with peoples credit everyday and have seen this being a little bit of a
hurdle....typically somewhere down the line you'll have to explain it
and probably more than few times!

Exactly..I think it would create pains that are not necessary. I for one
feel that a person should stay withthere lineage. I really think that
you will regret it .

my children had an issue with their last name ..after i remarried my two
older ones... yes they were young.. and i never put anythng bad about
their father in their heads.. i guess one can really make a mark on ones
life... though i divorced their dad when they were 1 and 3!!!!im sure a
lot came from his absence in their life<his choice> thank goodness he
dod too... but they in school opted all those yrs.. till 18 to use their
stepdads name... it is allowed to use a aka.. but legaly i never changed
their name... for werent old enough to decide that i let them know that
when they were adult 18 that they could go change their name legaly....
well they are 21 and 23 now.. neither changed their legal name and they
use now what they were born with.... just a thought to ponder...
