Does Christianity own God?

Or can non-Christians or other religions be respected enough to believe in some kind of God concept without being called "sinners?"

For that matter, does religion in general own the word "sin?"

oh Jeanniebean....

The short answers in my own humble opinion...

Does Christianity own God? -

(No-one and No-thing owns GOD!)

Or can non-Christians or other religions be respected enough to believe in some kind of God concept without being called "sinners?"

(Probably not..maybe some day)

For that matter, does religion in general own the word "sin?"

(YES, it's their term and they can keep it.)

In the words of Rumi:

"Out there between wrong doing and right doing, there is a field, I'll meet you there."

Depends, do they own the title God yes, since God refers to the entity they beleive in, as Allah refers to the god of the muslims. But they do not 'own' the concept of god, lil g here. I'd say every faith has dibbs on their entitiy but thats my opinion. Sin is a concept of religions, I never hear agostics discussing 'sin'.

Allah Hu Akbar is simply translated to ..God Is Great... so it's the same thing. So who would own the title, Christians or Muslims?

No, Christianity cannot own the word or concept of god because it existed before Christianity was even thought of. Some Christians act as though they do though.

As for sin, I believe religions in general own this concept.

I don't think that would be allowed. laugh But I think some people already assume they own it.

Yes they are, in fact they are Bible based religions. They are grounded in the same scriptures. Now do you know of a religion that is not Bible based that uses the term "sin?"

If only such huge volumes of books wouldn't have been written on such invented words as heretics, pagans, and infidel/embezzle, and yes the term "sinner" then we might have experienced less torturing and killing in the past.

Europe may have also have not experienced the dark ages either. Although the Arch bishops created the crusade to get the knights who where aggressive even amongst their own people out to fight a war on foreign soil. They used many stories to influence them to go there. It suddenly became a trend and many followed to only find their death later on. It is a sad part of European history.

Perhaps if Jesus would have survived and lived a longer life allowing him to write the bible himself then maybe Christianity would have taken a turn for the better (for everyone), but it hasn't so every religion will claim their teachings is the absolute correct words of a God.

Many (and I say many) believe the words in the bible is inspired by the almighty and one has to believe in it to make it to heaven. Many do it to keep a peace of mind. Sometimes I think many just do it because their elders did also. Whatever the reason is, we can choose what we feel best. That is a good thing in today's society as opposed to then for not believing!

My life would have ended at a early age already for I remain skeptical of the teachings of the bible as we know it today. indifferent

If everyone was rich there would be nobody to do the work. What a confusing world that would be. You couldn't even get a plumber to fix your toilet.

I am absolutely convinced that the God of the Bible is the Creator--the only truly moral and holy God. He owns everything including us. I honestly believe the other gods are counterfeits. However that is another subject. To answer this one:

The God of the Bible is supposed to own Christians. However, they refuse to be owned by Him. Rather, they have attempted, as the author of this post clearly sees--to own Him! They call Christ their God. They call themselves His servants, but they refuse to do what He says. Ironically, they do the very opposite of what He says, and then pride themselves in their righteousness for doing so.

For example, they teach that His law is done away when He says it is not (Mat 5:17-23. By this teaching, they don't have to do what He says. They don't have to keep His Commandments. They can mix pagan gods like Saturn and Ashtoreth in what they call worship of Him. They make and then bow down to idols such as statues of Him, His mother or supposed saints, crosses with Jesus on them, or before a painting of claiming to be Him. They call themselves by His name (Christian) and their leaders actually take His name on themselves, saying that they are "Father" or "Reverend." They believe they can decide which ever day they want to worship Him. Thus, in their mind---they must believe that they own Him.

But, there is the downside--He is coming back:

Mat 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity--(lawlessness).
