Well....
my baby makin factory is shut down now, and I have no kids.... and since my surgery has only left me with one boob, I really dont want to think about boobs being THAT important anymore ... but I will say, "ive seen people doing alot worse things in public, than nursing their children"! Personally, I think its beautiful, and natural , and you know if someone wants to turn that into something sexual... than THEY are the one with the perverted, sick mind... not the beautiful mother feeding her child, the way nature intended it to be done. |

Quite a man, I loved your lacto-story. I am getting jealous of the woman leaning on your chest, beside having been jealous of you for having her breast on your chest. I mean... whoa.
So the lactation story... the writer was a genius, and she inadvertently proved that everything is a fad. Her new fad of convincing herself to not believing something is a fad, is a fad. At other times the fad is to subscribe to fads. At other times, denying the truth in anything that is a fad. A fad is a fad is a fad. Her new-found insights due to a clear-thinking visionary (with blue eyes, which Ms. Kovacs I'm sure had had) have convinced her of the truth of her witty wisdom. Which is nothing but a fad. I.e. Sarah's point is a fad when she believes that Kovacs and her are both witty, smart people, with truth on their side. Interestingly, whether truth is on their side or on the side of the fad to which the opposing and contradictory camp subscribes to, is a completely moot question in my discussion, which is examining fads. Truth has nothing to do with fads. And that's true whether the fad is wrong, right, true, false, good, bad, righteous or wicked, black or white, milk or tar. The most powerful statement in the essay was to call breast-feeding a fad, because (obviously) breast-feeding has been with mammals for over ten million years, whereas fromula has been with us for a mere fraction of the period of ten million years. But once formula-users called breast-feeding a fad, and breast-feeders called formula a fad, the process and status quo has become irreversible stuck in that rut. In a Hegelian sense, a fad will immediately create its own opposite, and call that a fad. It is inconceivable to have a fad and not have something concurrent which is not a fad. This happens because of the dictionary definition of the word "fad". It is inevitable that the two will call the other a fad. The two fads will never reconcile, and the permanent feature that remains forever will be the fact that they both call the other a fad until kingdom come. A fad is a fad is a fad. |

Well hell to each their own....... I did not breast feed and had no desire to do so.........if you want to breast feed then at least be a bit discreet about the process of it.
Once the baby is actually breast feeding now days with the shirts & bras they make you can not see anything once they are actually in the process. But do not just pull the flap down and pull out your boob I mean what does it hurt to at least turn to the side or turn away from others in order to get positioned? Then go about your business no matter how natural it is we do not walk around in the nude and that is natural as well. Not all have the same beliefs that others do..... So what does it hurt to show a bit of respect around others and children that are not use to seeing a women breast feed. I would never ask one to go to the bathroom for hell if I'm going to eat in a bathroom. All I say is at least be a bit discreet with the process of getting the baby in position.....I'm not asking that they cover their heads during the whole thing just when getting them ready to at least be discreet..Hummm maybe I'm old school in my way of thinking but hey it's JMO......... |

meh. I don't think that restaurants should allow anyone under 12 in their doors, no matter what they eat.
Problem solved. |

no matter how natural it is we do not walk around in the nude and that is natural as well. Some do... Hummmm well some do but as far as I remember they are limited to where they can in fact do that as well.....I'm not saying to limit where a woman can breast feed just be discreet within the process of starting it and finishing it.......... I don't go to nudist colonies and have no desire to that is just me......evidently I'm not the only one that feels that way or it would be more openly done.... |

I've had to leave stores and go sit in the car to do it. |

meh. I don't think that restaurants should allow anyone under 12 in their doors, no matter what they eat. Problem solved. COMPLETLEY agree on that one, but I would push the limit to sixteen knowing the 12-15(ish) kids in my neighborhood on the feeding side, I honestly don't mind it, but as long as you use a towel to cover "the goods" it usually don't bother me. As of about a week ago what now bothers me is when someone is doing it, and at one glance, they go cause a scene because someone happened to glance in thier general direction. Yes, lol, it was me, I was looking in a store to see if my buddy was working, and before I knew it, I was made into the jack*** guy who is a perv. EDIT: and no, I had no clue she was even there untill she was in my face yelling with her child still going at it on the twins. |

Since I personally want the most babies possible to be as healty as possible I am for breast feeding on more or less demand at home.
I might be terribly old fashioned but I do not see the need for dragging an infant all over so that s/he can't eat and nap at home the majority of the time. A baby is not a throphy to drag around proving to the world that you can procreate. Or nurse. Personally I am tired of malnurished, sickly sunburned babies with thrush adding to the burden of skyrocketing medical costs because mothers AND father's do not do the majority of early parenting in the home or some protected environment where nurseing is not an issue. I resent providing artificial formula because so many mother's just refuse to nurse or pump their milk. With a little bit of organization public feedings are not nearly as necessary and some like to make it seem. Too many times Mother's simply offer the breast first to a frightened or over tired over stimulated child. Often it is not so much about the infant being hungry as the Mother wanting to be the center of attention. What I have a problem with is the Mother's who totally seem to ignore the fact that an infant will nurse better and compleatly with less distractions and the Mother's undivided attention both hands involved in positioning them. Nurseing in a smelly, noisy. dirty, public place where she has not washed her hands (or her nipples after) and the baby is exposed to all kinds of public hazzards and infections does not make sense to me. I know enough about nurseing that you can not comfortablly hold the infant in a good position to nurse and burp the infant in most public places. Should major malls, and family resturants and other public buildings make better options for when and infant needs to be fed publicly? Of course! I don't see it necessary for women to have to do what is basically and intimate time with her child to be public entertainment for men or women. I my experience is typical it is usually the women who refuse to allow you privacy even when you try to be discreet. Are many Americans conditioned to take this whole natural process out of context and over reacting? Absolutely. My stars it is a breast not some alien life form. Is nurseing part of child care that should not be a part of all settings? I think so. A nurseing baby does not smell particularly good and often is not the sweetly silent reclined cherub that people idealize. It is all well and good to try to cover and infant to nurse but some of them won't have it. The cry, cough, belch, and pass gas among other "productions" while nurseing. They will wiggle, squirm, kick and grab anything with in reach once they are close to satisfied. None of which complimenting my meal or conversation or transit in a confined space. |

There have been threads on the topic of real or fake boobs, and some have posted boobs as their favorite part of a woman's body. As we all know breasts are part of our bodies to feed our babies first...second for fun. I nursed all 3 of my sons as discreetly as I could..a blanket over me. Some still are bothered by women doing this in public. Your opinions.. My opinion... well... I always have an opinion. My opinion is that it's simply impossible to ignore a topic whose title is, simply, "breasts". If someone has never had anything to say about anything that has ever happened in this whole wide world, that very person is going to stick some post in here somewhere, too. There, I said something for the first time when I had no opinion whatsoever... simply because of the suggestive strength of the topic title. Ya didn't have to stay and post...thats my opinion. |

I breast fed all my babies for their first 2 plus years...and 24 years ago was tut tutted when out and about....seriously, what does one see, but the back of a baby's head and the curve of the top of the mother's breast.?
After having delivered my first, I couldn't give a rats razoo about who saw what where....all sense of humility or shame about bits of my body were gone. It bothered other people, not me. 20 years ago things were less puritanical...and people discreetly looked away, without the tut tutting.. 14 years ago, I could have poledanced naked in the street and no-one would have cared less... 12 years ago, it was so normal, and natural that we were not even 'seen'. Attitudes change...and here in Australia, it is no different from seeing someone pick their undies out of their butt. |
